Matty and I have talked about doing a trip like that...?

One thing at a time for me right now... my life has taken a back seat of late.

I still have not fired a single shot with my 243 and Sean and Matty are not happy with that.

So today I had a day off.... And I went to the local gun shop... And I may have (accidentally? Haha) bought a nice old second hand side by side 12ga...

Have been looking for a while and the spare time got the better of me.
No idea what brand it is but hopefully can pick it up tomorrow.

So got my license 2 weeks ago and finally got out hunting with a mate on Sunday (had to leave the meetup early but turned out to be worth it).

Started nice and early at his place 4:30 am jumped in his trusty patrol and headed out Labertouche way to a property he is allowed on. Not a great start when we got there, I borrowed another mates 308, but he accidentally (how I don't know) picked up his 22 instead. Not having looked at it closely and being a complete noob I didn't notice! Anyway my mate had his 30-06 and a couple of 22 rounds so put them in (just in case for a bunny or fox) and we set off.

Got to the woods at the edge of the farm about 6am, and we were straight into stalk mode, luckily into a nice gentle headwind, heaps of recent deer signs around. So we took it pretty slowly stopping every little while for a few minutes to listen, after about 100m (through dense shrub so it took a hour almost) we started to be able to hear some deer activity. Some more very very slow stalking and my mate spotted one across a small ravine, I was about 5m behind him and could not see it because of a tree but we camped down and he managed to get a perfect shot off. Straight in the neck with the 30-06 from about 70m, dropped it straight away very clean kill.

By this time it was about 8:30am and the real work started! Had to ford a small creek to get to the doe, and the field butchering began, 4.5 hours later it was 1pm and we had the thing quartered and back to the patrol!

Now my fridge is full of venison and I am dead keen to get out there (with the right gun) and get my own!

    Eye fillet anyone??

Great stuff mate! Shame about the mix-up with the guns, but great results in the end!

Well done, I recall you mentioning you were looking forwards to heading out in the morning. Many people have lots of trips out before first tasting success.
    Cheers

Because I emptied out my car for the weekend trip I forgot to put my hearing protection back in the car for work...

The only thing I could find was 204 empty shells and they worked well.. got a few funny looks though.

Yeah not bad... I have a huge Kawasaki back pack blower and its loud so could not stand the thought of 40min of it blasting my head off... Irish uses them all the time because he is too cool for school.
