I was a bit later getting to the vote count than I’d said, but have counted them as of 10.50pm this evening.
As I worked my way throughout the entries it seemed that we would have a clear 1st & 2nd, but a multiple way tie for 3rd, but this all changed as I got closer to the end.
“The Most Australian Picture Possible’ was a great & potentially broad topic but has attracted a range of entries that are of little surprise considering the interests that have brought folk to this forum in the first place. A forum for city dwelling chess fanatics would doublessly have attracted very different interpretations. Ourinterpretation could largely be summarised as ‘the great outdoors’. Whilst this fits well for a country where the outdoors is vast, attractive & accessible, it would be far less likely to have such prominence in most other countries. It is a particularly Australian thing & thus very fitting for our competition topic. It speaks as much of our lifestyle as it does of the specific locations.
I did not fail to notice howeverthat one of our newest Australians, & the chooser of the topic - ‘Irish’ winner of last month’s comp, did not let us know what he considers to be the ‘most australian’. Tsk tsk.
Ok your votes are in & we have 3 clear winners.
In first place with his late but first entry & 18 votes is ‘ozjeff’ with his lovely rural scene taken at Duck Creek Rd, Qld.
In second place with 17 votes is ‘P4trol’ with his great composition at the Roper Bar crossing
In third place with 15 votes is ‘clubbyr8’ with his quirky leaning water tanks.
Guys, in order to place the winning pics like this in the ‘Winners post’ I needed to upload your pics to my Flickr account. I hope this is ok with you. If not please let me know & I’ll delete them & replace them in this post with a smaller ‘thumbnail attachment’.
Well done all, thanks for everyone’s participation . I look forward to receiving a PM from our winner ‘ozjeff’ with his choice of topic for our August comp as soon as possible.
