I have a small budget to do the td conversion and thats it... or I could just be rid of 4wd's all together for a year or 2 and come back with a decent budget?

You can't get rid of the Q mate. I can't believe your still having fuel issues considering you've done just about everything. If only these bloody mafs would turn up we could try that.
