    Looking at buying a gq 4.2

    I'm looking at a gq 4.2 diesel with 350,000 on the clock, I took it for a test drive and the steering wanders a little, it was a little sluggish but didn't blow any smoke, I'm a bit worried because of the k's and steering wander, it has 33" tires not sure if I should buy it or not anything of major concern that I should look for?

    How much are they asking for it. Sounds like the steering linkages are all worn and as long as it serviced regularly it can do more than 500k km

    They may have a lift but no caster correction installed, and the bigger tyres make that wondering feeling worse.

    And steering wobbles or shakes around the 60-80 k Mark??

    Thanks for the replies, he is asking 10,500 , is caster correction expensive? Probably needs injector pump and injectors done I guess, that's probably going to cost a few $

    Unlikely to need the injector pump done. Or injectors for that matter. The TD42 is a strong whine that will be happy past half a million kms.

    I bolted a Turbo to mine at 350,000 and know of others that have added a turbo at 500,00". No problem. That's why you are prepared to pay so much for it! If it was a petrol then it would be worth $4,000!

    Has it got a lift at all? That is top dollar for an untouched TD42. But a good one that has never seen the dirt will be a good buy. If this thing is dented and worked hard then he is asking drug money for it!
    Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

    The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

    G'day Gus,
    probably too late but here's some thoughts from an old fart with the training and genes from a depression survivor.
    My fun starts when I get there, not with a heavy flog on the way. Boring, but. Wheels are treated good, ALWAYS. Top servicing by yourself, never flogged, least money spent fixing destroyed parts the better. Boring, but.
    Big wheels? funny steering?? maybe not totally clean,oil and grease free all round??? perhaps hasn't got an absolutely complete service record and I mean every service, tyre change, parts replaced, comments added type, large, full folder type record?????
    TD42, God's gift to 4X4 driving? Absolutely BUT can still be mistreated and cost bulk.
    As with any car, don't get carried away. Look very, very closely
    Regards
    Col
