Hi mate it's the PCV. Pressure Control Valve and stops the rocker cover from pressurizing when it gets hot. It will have a hose connected to it that goes back to the air intake to allow crank case vapor to expel.

Why do you want to remove it??

If you were going to fit a catch can you would fit it to the other end of a hose from that valve

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Just read the rest of your post. There should be a hose coming off it going up to the airbox

It's the Positive Crank case Ventilation (PCV) valve, if it's blowing oil, you have high blowby or the hose leading from it is clogged, or even the valve itself and needs a good clean out.
    Cheers, the ferret.

Ok thanks guys do I need to take rocker cover off to remove it or should it just slide out of rubber gromet as I have tried pulling it out and wont budge even tried screw driver between the Pcv n rocker cover to lever out n still no movement

I think it may b blocked as the hose seems clear with no cracks/splits

Not sure how it comes out, but if the rocker cover is removed, you will need a new gasket, I'm thinking it should pull out.
    Try turning it anti clockwise
    Cheers, the ferret.

    G'Day UCAman
probobly all fixed by now but if not yet,,,,,,,,,,,,
Sold my TD42 years ago but reckon your prob is a blockage in the line or the valve itself.
You shouldn't need to replace the cover gasket as it's removed every 40K to reset the valve clearances and mine lasted over 400K.
Maybe pull the rubber tube and clear it all the way and then if it's still blocked it only leaves the valve itself and a bit of a positive approach may be needed. Check inside the cover first though as the answer may be there (under about 10 mm of baked on gunk).
    Good luck
    Col

there is also a spay cleaner for pcv, take the hose of and give it a few spays to break up any old oil build up, but from the previous posts it is either a blockage or something wrong in the engine block itself. not sure how to take the whole unit out either sorry.

    ha guys,
finally got around to fixing the problem on the weekend,
the valve was blocked to buggery so got another off a mate and a new rocker cover gasket and presto no more oil leaking.
for further reference there is 3 10mm (i think) bolts that hold the pcv on thru the rocker cover
