I did 2 camp oven meals on the gas stove while I was away at Fraser (could not have a fire because of fire ban), lamb shanks cooked slow for 2 1/2 hrs and it was bloody fantastic & the second was roast lamb and veg, was good but would have been better with coals on top although the dingo that nicked half of it never complained.

Only use that oven [32kg] for weekenders as I can fit heaps in it, can feed 8 PPL out of it easy,
coals on top may be like swinging around a billy of tea there is no need but good for the tourists.
Plus its good for making bread, over the warmer months

Totally agree Andy and also it stops some drunken bugger checking the oven and dropping the coals in LOL

over the last few trips with Bob and Roofy we tried on top and with out coals on top.
No difference whats so ever, I do put COT if doing bread, but 6 of one IMO .
Plus you need a good coal base as well

A few seasons ago, Dad cooked up some fresh black duck basted in in a thick fruity sauce, followed by milk and raisin damper. Still makes me slobber when I think about it. Hmmmm black duck. COT
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Have to agree with above about the roast pork.

I like a stew or curry as well, anything slow cooking.
