I am having issues with starting up my 2.8 Patrol.
Year: 1998
Turbo Diesel Inter-cooled engine
If i start the car when its cold, it will start without giving me any sort of issues. But if the engine is still warm when I start it, it will crank and crank and crank as though there was no fuel in the tank!
When it eventually starts after a million tries, theres a lot black smoke out the back!
I took it to one of the local mechanics here in Newcastle, and was told its the fuel pump problem, and changing it, unfortunately is way out of my budget!
Are there any other ways I can go about this and still have a vehicle which starts when warm?
Hi Ferret, thanks for the help. Just curious whether this mod solves my issue completely or just gives me a little more time? As in, is this a temporary or a permanent fix?
It should solve the problem, altho it won't repair wear in the IP, however I did mine over a year ago and still good.
Best to take battery out so you can get to the IP, stick the 0 ring to the plate with grease when fitting, make sure surfaces are clean.
For about $45, ya can't lose.
Cheers, The ferret.
new to the forum and Patrols too.
Bought mine (1998 GU/GR 2.8TDi) 2 weeks ago with 157.000 in the clock.
Had the hot start issue from the beginning.
Ordered the advance plante from Denso and changed it today.
Little bit tricky without removing battery and the hoses from the air con in the way, but was done in 20 minutes.
The old girl turns over just beautifull now, hot and cold.
