I am definitely interested in this idea, for now I will say I am in with bells on.

Live life, Love life.
Snatch straps on towballs can harm and/or kill!!!!!!

I'm keen, pending work.
I'd also suggest with a group of potentially a large size that we avoid the school holidays as there can be literally thousands of 4wd's up there and camping sites would be difficult to arrange. August is a good choice. If the majority want to bring the families and school kids, then August is still better than June/July, but will also be busy.
I'd also suggest we book or at least notify the good skipper at the Punsand Bay Resort nice and early, as it is way nicer to stay there and very convenient for an early start to make it up to the Tip for sun up.
Have to include the tele-track in this run wouldn't we?
Between Patrols ATM. Had a beaut GU with 6.5 Chev TD. Next is a GU ute with a 4.5 litre Cummins conversion and a camper on the back.

The halls been rented the bands been paid, time to see you dance!
No doubt as we get a bit closer there will have to be some sort of rough consensus on just how much of the Cape everyone wants to see. The Cape can literally take as long as you have got available and still have places to see. Taking campers can also limit options for some unless the camper is a real off roader.
Cooktown, Lakefield, Chilli Beach, Frenchmans Track, Weipa, Virylia Point, Seisia, Punsand Bay, Tip....perhaps? Including the swimming holes on the way of course, and pending time at least some of the OTT?

I'll be there unless I've fallen off the perch , interested to see the difference from 1983 till now
Looking @ NP99s figure I would work fuel costs out @ $2 a litre.
Would think for me 7 tank fulls @ $250 a fill = $1750 so round it up to $2000.
That's Melb to the Tip and back maybe even a side trip
.What are the alcohol Laws up there these days?

04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there
Alcohol restrictions vary depending on where the trip ends up going.
You can make it most of the way with no issues, but the Bamaga area is limited to 1 carton per vehicle I think. No grog can be taken into Lockhart, but Chilli Beach and the Frenchmans track are fine. Weipa is obviously fine, and so is Virylia Point. Tele track is also fine.
Fuel at Weipa in November was $1.68. Coen was $1.88. Avoid Archer River and the Jardine Crossing, particularly the Jardine crossing unless you have the ability to drain water from your filter.... Have had some shocking batches of fuel there on occasion.
