Thanks guys for the explanation of what this bloke is wearing.
Can you explain the Bar or Clasp please.
I have some idea but if you can add so many like this example I am surely wrong.
Cheers

Macca - it will vary depending on award, generally a clasp (rosette) will be awarded for length of continual service i.e. National Service medal which is generally awarded for 15 years service and 1 x rosette for each 10 yr service there-after.
It can also include clasps for other awards such as the Bravery Award with the Wattle Leaf clasp on a reddish ribbon as another example.
In regards to other "bars / clasps", they will refer to the area / conflict in which the person served e.g - Australian Active Service Medal with a "PNG" clasp refers to service in Papua New Guinea.
There are also the Ribbon Bars themselves which is the basic form in which the medals are displayed for general uniforms, not ceremonial and the miniature medals would be for something like a "Dining In Night / Formal Dinner" where by personell wear their "Mess Dress" uniforms.
Last set of bars which are generally worn on the right are Unit Citations / Commendations which are again ribbon bars which are awarded for things like Bravery, Gallantry etc.
Hope this helps![]()

Thanks OD,
If the person had a VC with bar does that mean they have been awarded the medal again for a second and seperate act deserving recognition?
edit; Just using a VC as an example, not saying it has been awarded. If it did happen would a bar be presented or another medal? that was were I was coming from.

To be honest I haven't the foggiest idea on that as I have never seen anything / anyone who has been awarded more than 1 VC. It is possible that if that was to eventuate then possibly a bar / clasp may be utilised.
There is nothing showing such a thing on the Honours and Awards - Order of Precendence listings that I have seen but am happy to be proven wrong on that![]()

Hines twin brothers wannabes! Part 1
The following report on the Hines Bros has been provided by Garry Sloane …
Okay, a report on Friday 5 April proceedings as I saw it at the court hearing of the two Hines brothers accused of wearing un-awarded Defence medals.
This has been sent to another couple of areas so a bit might not seem applicable to here but it will give you the general idea of what happened at the court. If you have a genuine interest in our medals and their preservation, I am asking you now, that if you live in the general area of Brisbane to attend the court hearings with your medals on your chest to silently show your disgust for this pair and all those who are wearing tin medals or medals to which have not been lawfully issued. I will let you all know through Ray when the next appearance will be and this time it will be the trial.
We arrived at the court at approximately 0800 and quite a few blokes were there already. Between 8 and 0830 a lot more blokes sporting their medals turned up and this included one poor bloke in a wheelchair as you would have seen from the newspaper report.
Twin brothers accused of impersonating diggers during an Anzac Day parade skipped court, avoiding a protest by angry retired servicemen | The Courier-Mail
There were a lot of veterans from other corps there aside from those from the RAR this time, which was good to see, and a head count as good as I could do it, indicated there were 42 people there. We all then proceeded through the security area and up to court room six. Media people were there in abundance and we all moved inside the court and sat down, well as many as possible sat down, it ended up standing room only. Prior to the judge arriving six other blokes turned up immaculately dressed in suits and wearing medals. One other just had his RASB on. All had very short hair and they didn't really introduce themselves to everyone. More on those blokes to follow.
The judge turned up and I was watching him look around the room at all the blokes with medals on. I also noticed the defence lawyer eyeing us up and down but she never said a word. A couple of cases were heard before the Hines case came up and they were short and sweet. Then it was our turn. It was a bit hard to understand everything that was said but the basics of it are that our John Carr, the brother that has changed his name, is still in custody and has been there for five months. He has indicated that he is pleading guilty to all charges. George on the other hand, he was the dominant one of the two, still intends to fight everything. This I think can be put down to the fact that they have paid for and have a book called MASK about all of their bull**** exploits waiting to be published.
The defence lawyer indicated that George was still not ready to appear and the judge then indicated that it would be postponed until next Friday and on that date a trial date WILL be set. There is really no need for us to turn up there on that day but I and anyone else that would like to appear to show that we have not lost interest is quite welcome to turn up. Same drill, medals on chest and a few beers afterwards.
Once the court was over we all moved outside and were asked to move into a room beside the court as a bloke wanted to speak to us. We all moved in there and that's when we got a bit of a shock. The fellow that spoke to us is a detective sergeant, I won't give out his name for obvious reasons, but I do have his business card. The other five blokes who were immaculately dressed in suits also came into the room. This detective sergeant identified himself as a returned younger veteran and announced that he was the one that first received the photographs you have seen of the Hines brothers wearing all of their bull**** and he decided it was time that the police started to do something about these fake veterans and he and the other immaculately dressed suits who are also returned veterans from Afghanistan/Iraq/Timor etc., proceeded to lay charges against the pair. At about this point everyone in the room started clapping. He indicated that it was time to get right amongst all these fake veterans and lay charges against them and he made it quite clear that he was aware that we were looking for a precedent so that we could go hunting them too.
I have this blokes business card and I intend to contact him this week. I intend to tell him that there are blokes all across the country that will be looking out for tin medals on ANZAC Day and see if he, through being a police officer, can contact other police in other states to see if we have other ex-service police officers who are prepared to do the same thing right across Australia. If we can establish a crew in each state and have their details available then we have a chance finally of getting amongst these tin wearers and getting them out of the ranks and charges with the relevant offences.
I have been right onto these fake medal wearers now for over twenty years and have seen their numbers drop a little through my ranting to associations but they are still out there so if we can get a decent precedent set and the police will finally charge them it might stop them if they get hit in the pocket or think they might possibly go to jail for doing it.
Now let me make one thing quite clear here to one and all. I am not a member of the wannabe hunters, ANZMI. They go after people who are out and out frauds and defrauding the DVA system. My aim is to get the fake medals off the chests of those who have never earned any medals and also off the chests of the genuine blokes who are trying to enhance their rack or service by wearing stuff they haven’t been awarded. That is demeaning to their service and there is no need to wear rubbish on their racks when they have been issued genuine medals for genuine service.
Since the second last hearing of the Hines twins some of us were seen on TV and we have received death threats from three people in particular. I am going to name them here and tell you why. Each of these people is an advocate within the DVA system. Each of them are wearing and have admitted that they are wearing tin medals and have declared they can and will wear whatever they want to wear as they are no longer in service. Well that may be so that they can wear whatever they want but the protocol for tin medals as shown on the Honours and Awards area states that they are not to be racked in amongst genuine service medals and if worn at all should be worn on the right breast and below any NOK medals that are worn. That way it will give all us genuine veterans a good laugh when these poseurs wear their tin enhancements. The three people I refer to here are:
Former WO2 Paul Copeland [ ex Signals corps] this bloke is wearing tin and has come up with an outlandish story on why he wears this and bits and pieces of Navy and Commando uniform embellishments that he also has no entitlement to. He can be found here on the ANZMI pages as someone has written him up about all his bull**** and claims. copeland Copeland is a DVA advocate and operates out of Victoria.
The second bloke is a former WO1 by the name of Michael Quinn. This bloke is the same as Copeland and is wearing tin and has admitted it. He also emailed and rang me threatening to come to Brisbane and murder me but at this stage he must be lost as he hasn’t arrived as yet. He also hacked my Facebook page I have for my kids who live interstate and this bloke is that bright he used his own identity to do this. That and the emailed death threats have been handed over to the police and I am waiting to hear what will happen there at this stage. This bloke is also from Signals Corps and is a member of the APPVA, the Australian Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Veterans site started by and currently being ruined by Copeland because of his tin wearing and lies he is putting out across the internet. Quinn is also a DVA Advocate operating out of Victoria and formerly Signals Corps the same as Copeland…..peas in a pod it would seem.
The third fool in this trio of musketeers is a Navy bloke by the name of Rod Thompson. Also a tin wearer who has admitted he wears this stuff and will continue to do so as it makes him feel good. Between him, Quinn and Copeland they saw the news item of the Veterans at the Hines court hearing and using all three tiny brain cells they deduced that all who appeared there were “ANZMI operatives” and have made up a fictitious list of these veterans and some of their friends who they claim are “ANZMI Operatives” and have put this list out across the internet. Thompson, the ex-Navy fool, has sent an email far and wide stating that he will personally pay a $1000 bounty to anyone who will kill each person on the list. A very stupid move by a very stupid Navy tin wearing fool and this too has been handed to the police and everyone on that list is now waiting for a result from the police. Thompson is also a DVA advocate in Queensland.

Hines twin brothers wannabes! Part 2
These three really should not have anything to do with advocacy and Veterans and I believe there are many letters either on their way to or at the DVA now calling for them to be removed. God knows what type of stuff these people have been shoving into the younger veterans about claims and all this is very reminiscent of China Hammel, another Navy veteran who was falsifying claims for people.
Rest assured this is not over by any means and will not be finished until some form of action is taken by DVA and/or they are charged under the Defence Act for wearing medals badges and accoutrements to which they have no entitlement. I am just waiting for the end of the Hines case so we have a precedent and then I personally will refer the three of them to the same police officers who charges the Hines twins.
Quinn and Thompson also appear in Copeland’s ANZMI page entry. Read their comments on there.
Enough is enough. We have to get the tin off the chests of those who are stealing honour or wearing medals to which they have no entitlement. I have said above I am not ANZMI but I do like what they do to those who are stealing benefits but this, fellow Veterans, is a different approach. This is the improper use of our medals and now with a precedence looming and finally with some police that will follow up and charge these fools it is time to rid them from our ranks. Make no mistake, when a precedent comes out of the Hines case I will be approaching the three main offending associations to see what they intend to do about the tin wearers in their associations.
The three main offenders are. The RSL, The Navy Association and the dreaded 3 month Nasho association. They stole our Volunteers medal and they still parade around with tin on their chests. Well enough is enough and now it’s time to hit them in the wallet if they insist on wearing tin on their left beast.
There will be far more to this soon and I thank Ray for passing this across his network to everyone. If you have the same sentiments as me for these tin wearers then please see if the police in your state will form their own tin soldier squad. There will no doubt be younger veterans who are now police officers in your state and like the Queensland fellas I am sure they will be quick to take action against these people.
The Hines twins will find out this Friday when their trial will begin. I will send out another email through Ray to let all of you know the dates. It is expected that it will be over three days. One, John, as I have said above, has decided to plead guilty and he has been held in custody on “another matter” for the last 5 months. George, who is apparently the stand over man of the two is intending to fight the charges and plead not guilty. How I don’t know when there are those magnificent photos of him with over 50 medals on his chest but I guess this has to be played out as he has paid out to have a book published about the so called service he has done. Seems to sound a bit reminiscent of another foolish veteran we are all aware of as far as I can see.
For those of you that live around the Brisbane area I would ask you all to attend the court when this finally goes down. The more we have there showing concerns for the fools who are stealing our service and valour the better. There were approximately 42 there at the last hearing and we need more. Some came from as far away as Rockhampton so if you can make it please be there with your medals on your chest. I will advise the dates as soon as I know this Friday.
Cheers All
