Patrol RB30 Carby Problems?

Has anyone had problems with the carby on the nissan rb30 motor The problem that I am having is early mornings and climbing hills it seems as though the the motor is starving for fuel and has no power at all then for no reason at all it suddenly runs like normal will rev out and run. When i'm returning from work though it all works fine just about...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Should also mention that i'm certain that my internal fuel pump at the back in the fuel tank keeps ticking away, its done this since I've had the patrol (Carby).
It's only ran like I have mentioned above when its gotten into these colder mornings

Also this seems to be the go for my Internal fuel pump, Just want a quick 2nd opinion

Have tried to find some put only found a couple with no usefull info.. Just seems to come and go for people, But mine is every morning

ok early morning issues could be an auto choke problem. If it struggles for fuel and then runs fine, it may be a fuel blockage? Have you checked/replaced all the fuel filters? Is it definately struggling for fuel or could it be a spark/coil problem?

The carby rb30 motors are known to stave on step hills. I only used my RB30 once on petrol off road due to this issue. I did not have a problem running LPG.

Go efi, LPG or do a carby conversion from the mob on the goldcoast

It wasn't out 4x4 in the bush, It was up a light hill on the way to work on the road, I've taken it offroad plenty of times before this happened and it Does hill climbs so easily

Mine's an RB30. But, it got a long range fuel tank, not the original one. So, I'm not sure whether the intank fuel pump is the same when after converting to long range. If yours is the original tank( which I doubt as it's pretty small to be any use), then above ebay pump might be the right one.

I would replace the fuel filter and check/clean the small gauze filter in the carby petrol line.

In my case, I had to put a carby kit through and spend a fair bit of time tuning and then adjusting the auto choke, fuel mixture, etc.

Check the threads I started. It may be some help to you.

BTW, mine is the original Nikki carby?! I'm guessing yours the same?!!!

Also, taslucas made a really good point. It's easy to misdiagnose spark/coil problems as fuel problems unless you are professional.

AFAIK, you can check if the fuel pump is faulty or not by opening it up from the rubber hose near the return line, and then attach it to a bottle, then turn the ignition on and see if it guzzles out continuously without any issues.
You can also buy a dirt cheap fuel/vacuum pressure tester from ebay and check the fuel pressure as well.

My guess is it's a carby issue, but I might be wrong. I'm bit biased since I had quite a few issues with my RB30 Nikki carby.

I had a 91 rb30 and it had quite a bit of poke (with the right tyres) but I did have on going carny issues. Mainly cause I lived on a hill and I couldn't start it any morning. Also can't roll start in reverse, so had to roll it down the hill then swing it around, then fire up the ignition. Was a bit of fun and a bit annoying. Lol.
Also found that the fuel line have a lot of extra put in them when the carny is not working right, so they were an issue as well. Still an awesome rig if you have one that's been well looked after. Also, the exhaust manifold studs will crystallize and crack all the time in a rb30. Within 6 months and 2 roadworthys in my case.
I miss the old rig though.
