Mine is drivers.
But my mates is passenger side so we can park side by side and have the awnings out together.
2011 GU8 ST 3.0 CRD, ARB Bullbar with IPF spotties, scrub bars and side steps, Snorkel, Dual Battery system, Waeco fridge, Turbo Timer, ARB Roof Rack with 5 IPF spotties across the front, Custom full Leather Bucket seats, DPchip, 3" Taipan exhaust, ARE Intercooler & scoop, Autron EGT/Boost and dual volt gauges, ARB front locker.
If you have a choice I would go with passenger side.
You can set it up on a street to dry, or have a smoko in shade or shelter. Much safer than having it on the other side.
Our last car it was on the drivers side even though we never used it there.
It was mounted on a "Fred's Arm" which swung it over the back door of the ute with canopy we had.

Very handy device and used it all the time.

04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there
passenger side for sure

I would think safety would be passenger side!
Put one on both sides, that way you have the flexibility to do what ya like
