LS1 conversion would be a better option. If not a viable one for you then maybe stroke the 304 out to a 355 or 383. Marks adaptors will do an apaptor for the transfer to auto.

X 2 ring Mark and tell him your plans ,very easy guy to work with, plus all his gear fits first time.
If you go to the factory ask him to take you for a spin in his Portal GU, ooohhhh yeeeaaahhh

sounds like you have a donor car, get a LS1 thats been smacked up the back negotiate a buy back price
after you have all your bits, most wreckers will do this

A mate did the LS1(5.7?) and auto in his gq shorty.
He bought a v8 auto wagon wreck and stripped it.
He used the existing engine, auto, wiring lume & computer, wiring it in series though his gq ignition. The commodore key & barrel was secured under the dash in the ignition & commodore dash cluster was moulded into the gq dash.
He made engine mounts & other bits etc but pretty sure he used marks adapters to sort the transfer issue.
    Also had a 2" body, 4-5" suspension lift & 35's.
Once he bad everything in & it running, he scrap metalled the car & sold all the remaining gear, including the 4.2na & 5 spd
I must say, it did go quite well indeed.
06 GU IV Nissan Patrol wagon 3.0L, Tough Dog 2" lift, Xrox bar, 12k Mako winch, 33" muddies, 3" exhaust, Awning, UHF, drawers & fridge, custom sliders, DVDs, custom water tank and pump, rack etc etc.
Now just in - GQ Shorty 4.2 petrol, UHF - but looking at turbo or V8 conversion
