Legals for changing tyre / wheel size nsw

I have had a quick look in the search but can't find the answer. Are you allowed to change rim / wheel size? I thought a max of 50mm increase in wheel diameter was legal, but I checked the RTA web site and it states a max / min of 15mm. Any ideas? I have 17" alloys and want to change to 16" rims and 33" tyres. Legal or not?

Legals for changing tyre / wheel size nsw

In VIC i know for a fact you can change your rim 1" bigger or smaller and 1" wider or thinner, as for tyres i think if it doesn't rub or stick out the past the body as a protrusion and its rolling distance doesn't change the speedo by more then 3% its fine

I was always under the impression you could have 2" suspension lift, a 2"body lift and increase diameter of tyres by 2" and that was legal. Now theres this +/- 15mm thing. Can any one shed some light???

upto 50mm ilift is legal. Be it tyre, suspension or body lift. I think the laws changed again just recently but this has always been the case.

You want to be legal? easy! put the same tyres back on it.

If you want to bend the rules, go 33's.

if you carry a "spirit of the law" attitude, go 37's, and modify your car accordingly so its safe.

VicRoads' new VSI 8 regulation permits "Owner Certified" 4WD ride height increases up to 75mm, with 50mm maximum allowed for suspension lift, plus a 25mm increase resulting from fitment of a tyre with 50mm greater outside diameter, provided the modifications are undertaken using a commercially available lift kit that has been specially designed and tested for the vehicle application. Under the national guidelines, 'Owner Certified' lifts are limited to 50mm.
