    patrol won't keep running

    hi , hope i'm posting in the right section. my "85" patrol wont start unless i manually push the cable that goes down to where the control motor is but as soon as i release it again it just dies. any suggestion's

    Not sure what Cable you are talking about but I would suggest that there is a bad connection on that Cable.

    Haven't got a broken return spring or similar some where. doesn't sound like its to much of a big fix

    Maybe try lubing up the cable with a bit of crc. Check for any sharp bends where the cable may have cut through the casing?

    Does it run if you have your foot on the gas pedal? It should'nt matter if you have your foot on the pedal or not, it should run. Try turning up your idle screw.

    i think there is something wrong at this end of the cable as it doesn't move or even make a sound when u turn on the key. someone said apparently you should hear it engage or at least see some movement

    Ah the old SD33. I had one of those. That in the pic is what cuts the engine out. Check the electrical connection to that motor as when there is no power to that motor it pulls on the cable therefor shutting the engine down. That motor is activated by your ignition switch. Check all wiring and FUSES too.
    This is going by memory of 15 years back too so I may well be wrong.
