Proud Parents of NP! It's story time!

Thought I'd start a light hearted topic since there's so much crappy news lately.

Basically, having come back from an AWESOME Vic meet up, I was thinking about how well behaved everyone was and more importantly, how well behaved the KIDS were!

There was half a dozen kids or so running about Friday & Saturday arvo/night and not one of them played up! No crying, no temper tantrums, no fights. I was very impressed indeed, having been away with families with kids, friends kids parties, etc.. they can be little demons at times.

So proud parents of NP.. what is your secret!?

Did you introduce your children to camping/4WD'ing at a very early age?
Did you do it on purpose or was it the fact you weren't going to give up camping.. so deal with it son!
Have you had absolute NIGHTMARE holidays where the little ones were just playing up?
Do you have kids that don't like camping or 4WD'ing? Perhaps they are scared of the cars?

If any of you proud parents would like to share a few stories, please do so! I think it would be cool to get some tips for new parents to read or perhaps even people who want to have a child in the future.

*ps. extra points for pics of screaming children, thoroughly muddy kids or maybe a nice one of the proud parents with their kids loving life outdoors!*
    ---------------------------------------------

I'll start, even though I don't have kids.. these were some of the epic moments I saw on the trip.

MudRunner's Son telling Dad that there's a stick in the car. Dad becomes alert.. "oh where?".. reply was to the effect of, "The bit where you get in".. which was met with a few laughs. When asked again for more information to the effect of.. "Okay, so where's the stick in between" the reply was "The bit where you get out!".. absolute classic and made everyone laugh around the fire.

Nisshead's sons arguing over who get's to crush Dad's can of beer. LOL! Also, they were making wombat hole booby traps and Rabbit traps with sticks, rocks and food. This was in conjunction with all of the other kids all doing their bit.

Bloody Aussie's daughter acting as the leader of the group. She kept all of the younger kids quiet and occupied, no doubt setting tasks and orders like most women right? Right? woops! Haha. She was instrumental in looking after the boys and also AB's little girl who is around 2yr old. Always on the look out for cars on the driveway between the camp sites and making sure the little ones were safe. Very impressed!

AB's daughter run a muck! No sooner was she out of the car, I saw here with a bubble gun chasing all of the boys! Might be trouble when she get's older AB! A highlight for me was seeing her kick a football! She is knee-high to a grass hopper and kicking a bloody footy. That was gold. She was also very adapt at not only throwing the totem tennis ball for the other kids to hit, but she loved a good rock to throw! Hmm.. that might not actually be a good thing! Eep!

Chester turned up on the Saturday and his kids were running around playing footy with the smaller ones. They were all generally having fun and letting Mum and Dad have a relax which was great too see.

    Your turn guys!

You're right they were all very impressive. So we'll behaved and extremely polite.
That was an absolute cracker when MR's young boy told him about the stick.
Bloodyaussie's little girl was so mature and told some great stories, a real princess lol. Would have been good to meet your other three kids. Your young boy and the dogs hahaha I dunno who you missed more!
Andy's little girl has good taste in music, screamed every time daddy started singing!

Although we werent there I can totally appreciate kids and their behaviour.
Our kids have been camping from an extremely early age, they learnt that if they play up, they dont get to go back next time!
Plus, we found it way easier if we gave each child a special job that they held the responsibility for.
This taught them important lessons for life, we still have a whole lot of fun and there lies the secret. Keep it fun no matter what the weather or the conditions.
As soon as the fun goes out, so does the good behaviour,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Sounds like a huge congrats for what seems to have been an awesome weekend, sorry I missed it now.
    Cheers

All my boys have been camping from a young age,it was either come camping/4wding or say home with grumpy old pa!!!!!!
If we are going for a few days we try to take their bikes, overnight just a footy or even belive it or not books to read.
We had a few drama's with Max our second oldest playing with the fire on one trip.We told him over and over agian "Max stop playing with the bloody fire you'll burn yourself" in the end i let him go but still kept a close eye on him, sure enough he burns his hand.
Sitting there with is hand in cold water i looked at him and said "told you so".
Sounds cruel but he has never done it agian.

Tim my daughter has been involved with everything both me and Margherita do.. I have been involved in bikes and racing with Erica coming to many race meets and MotoGp and World Super Bikes rounds at Phillip Island.

I have always asked for a hand in the garage or while working on the car and she has a good understanding of the blokey side of things.

She has always been with me 4wding and has come nearly every trip and my mates have never minded me bringing her along either for the day or for the weekend.

Erica is trustful and for the most part a very good girl, I have and will again let her drive my GQ more than my wife has driven it. and I mean properly.

She has shot guns more than most people and has a maturity beyond her years.

Sometimes it worries me as she does not have heaps of friends but is popular and everyone at school seems to know and like her???

I really liked it on Saturday when we wanted to go out for another play I felt comfortable enough with the people I have met through this forum to leave her to play with the other kids.

I try to be with her doing these activities as much as possible as I had very little parenting around as I was growing up and was left to my own which was many times a bad thing.

I appreciate that she is liked by my fellow 4wders and like that the kids she played with were also so good.

You can tell I am a proud parent hey, I guess Tim it is important to involve them in your life but also let them be kids and try to get involved in there life too!!!!!
