Had 2006 stl Auto RAC checked.....some advice required please..thanks

Well I got the report back from RAC for the 2006 Nissan stl Patrol wagon , and I am now going to buy the vehicle , it is from an old mate.

All appears great on the report other than they mentioned that the transfer case oil was very dirty and that the trailing arm mount bushes were cracked....my question is ...is replacing the Trailing arms bushes a big job? and also what is the best oil to replace in the transfer case.

My mate was livered about the dirty oil as he was led to believe that would be done at his regular servicing if required....obviously not. Or ...if it was changed any reason why it would get dirty so quick?

    Thanks , Jawa

Trailing arm bushes are very easy just make sure you get genuine nissan for any bushes, they may need to be pressed in and out would be the only difficulty
I try to change my diff/gbox/tnsfer every 5k but often goes to 10k

Thanks Double Tap ....I assume I should stay with the rubber bushes, I am aware that there are those other types ( like hard plastic ) but not sure how good they are.

Should I use the standard recommended oil for the transfer case...or do you use a special type / brand that mey be better?
    Thanks again

I agree with Double Tap .

Definitely the genuine rubber bushes and 5 or 10k drop the fluids in the boxes.

X3 genuine rubber bushes and for your transfer I would use something like castrol VMX 80 its what most nissan dealers tend to put in the g/box and t/case

Apart from the "books recommendation" my box is well in excess of 500k young so any extra help she gets I figure can't hurt. I reckon I was the first owner in 500k to change it and the tnsfr and diffs;-)
