not too much has been happening in the past couple of weeks, I have finally got around to rebuilding my power steer pump with a heavier relief valve spring for the extra pressure required. My 285/75/16 Cooper S/T Maxx's have finally turned up along with 16x10 Sunraysia's, Alternator has been done, new belts and pulleys fitted. I did pick up a seat of barely used, low k seats from an 08 Peugeot GTi, front seats should be simple to bolt in with some minor fabrication, rear seats will be difficult but not impossible.

Having done a cast iron chev conversion in 94, dont you think they were made for it, still plenty of room for everything.
It just looks right, Mark French of adaptor fame had a factory looking GQ with a 308 in it, very nice. Now he has the Portal GU

well I have had a few days off to get stuck into the car, not as rust free as first thought, bit of rust on the drivers side floor pan, drivers side lower section under the windscreen, huge amount under the battery box, just a little behind the headlight panels.

rust was cut out and plated with 1.2mm gal steel (zinc rust inhibiting weld through primed), engine bay has been painted in silver/black rust proof hematone (little paranoid about rust now).

I've re-inforced the bellhousing adapter, as they have been known to break around the throughout sleeve carrier, little over the top, but i have no intention the pull the motor out again anytime soon.

2" body lift is in

suspension is a bit of a drama.. apparently this is a 2" lift... it is sitting at 130cm from the ground to the top of the radiator x-member, my other GQ with a 2" lift, is 3"s smaller. i'm guessing it's a 4" lift. The main reason for the height concern is my workshop (car is being built at home btw) has a 2.1mtr height clearance, which is currently OK, and I don't want to be a cop magnet.

the blue power steer line has uber high pressure rating. I have done thousands of braided line set-ups in my lifetime, this has been the most difficult. 2hrs later, the line is finally assembled. big issues due to the heavy 3 layer steel internal braiding. It was expensive but worth it.

I dropped the sway bar off the front to get the front suspension in, which made it much easier to slide the headers in.

the rear suspension, i jacked up one corner at a time and hit the sway bar disconnection which gave me an extra 3"+ of travel.

radiator and intercooler are mounted, the intercooler has to be revised do to the weight (water to air heat exchanger, would weigh about 5kg's once filled).

tomorrows list comprises of fuel tank install, fuel system enclosure mock up (for fabrication and to check clearances, it will be mounted where the long range rhs fuel tank would normally mount), fuel reg install, interior strip, doors off, brake booster install, and start wiring.

todays progress - installed new rocker cover gaskets, injector o-rings, installed all vacuum lines, breathers, and fuel vapor recirc valve. fuel reg is installed, fuel tank, and intercooler permanently mounted

past couple of days. fuel system is 90% complete, permanently installed thermo fans, radiator, brake booster, sorted a lot of wiring out, started on body repairs, power steer system is completed, and finished the 3.5" mandrel bent exhaust. just about ready to turn key, should be running by the end of the week.
