I have a TB42 5 speed dual fuel patrol. It has extractors and I recently fitted a 350 Holley to it, it is by far the best 4WD i've ever owned. Personally, I wouldn't go for an auto but that is just personal preference, however its a very torquey lazy motor, mine doesn't rev over 3000 rpm under normal driving, so unless the auto's are very strong, I imagine they'd be prone to failure, with the stresses put on them, at least a clutch can slip.
My truck has about 500,000 on it, I'd say its had a freshen up once in its life because its pretty lively and isn't smokey. I wouldn't have any hesitation firing it up and driving it anywhere I needed to go.
