    Urgent help needed!!

    Hay team

Need urgent help with 2.8 turbo gq patrol.

Was just on way to camping when the old girl had failure in timing belt. Tensioning wheel completely destroyed and belt snapped, placed on flat bed and now stuck on sunny cost. Can this be a simple replacement or is there more sinister things that I need look for? Towie said could of destroyed valves and seals. Need help.

    Cheers.

It is certainly possible that other damage has occurred with a timing belt failure. Pull the rocker cover off and gently turn her over by hand make sure everything is working ok and that it turns over without locking up.

Mate, you are in deep poo sorry to say. The 2.8 is an interference motor and you would be very lucky not to have bent the valves.
You may be able to fit a new belt and tensioner as well as a new idler, you won't know if anything is bent until you time it up and see if it will turn over (BY HAND ONLY)
Other than that the head needs to come off.
You will need to remove the harmonic balancer, when you put it back on, make sure to do it up to tension spec and loctite the big bolt.
Good idea to use a new bolt each time too.

So that's the weekend up the creek.
    Cheers, the ferret.

Yeah this is what I feared, seems like I will be sending it to the shop. That all bit out of my depth. Jesus. Couple grand down the pipes.
