MQ /MK differences

Another difference I've found between the two is when I took off the fenders, the MK appears to have a support that looks like it's to strengthen it, please correct if I'm off track but pics will show what I mean

Now for my 2 cents worth.. My MK is a SD33T, is 24volt and is 5speed.
MY MQ is the L28, is 12 volt and is 4speed.
Power steering from the MK can be used on the MQ however needs a petrol bracket (thanks MQ MAD for that info)
The 5sp gearbox from the SD33T cannot be put onto the L28 without mods, it can be done but it's not a matter of swapping gearboxes and bolting it into place.
Any more differences I find as I go I'll post for others to learn from my bloodied knuckles LOL

More subtle differences between my MQ and MK.

Vinyl Dash taken out, MK is the bottom one, only difference is the vents on the sides


Steel dash, red is the MQ and MK is the grey/silver


Bolt holes are all the same so one gets the idea that they're made from the same template, only exception is this hole is larger in the MK but it looks like it's been an adjustment with the robot

MQ has a small circle next to the cluster hole

circle has gone is now an oblong shape. Only difference between the two steel templates

The instrument clusters had some large differences. I'm unsure if it's related to one being Diesel and the other Petrol.

Back view (right hand side of clusters is the oil, volt, temp etc)

only difference is the clock on the MQ and the Rev counter on the MK

1st difference is the circular pin array for the MQs oil,volt etc cluster compared to...

two wire clip-in thingies (again my knowledge base is becoming apparent)

the clock cluster and

the rev counter cluster.
Trying to work out if I can utilise the MKs cluster on the MQ, not sure how to arrange the Rev counter though

Another day in the man-cave and another day off differences between the MQ and MK
This time it's the lowly heater

The one on the left is the MQs and the one on the right is the MKs

The only difference I can see/find between the two is the shiny bit and the wiring associated with it

MQ has just a couple of wires sticking out and the MK

has a hose from the centre to an outlet/inlet and a plug for wiring

and this sticker, saying that it's 12V and by the year is definitely a MQ and

this is 24V and by the year is definitely NOT a MQ
All bolt holes marry up between the two vehicles

Sorry about the mismash of the MK, is also being used as a storage vessel for parts I'm wanting from the MQ



The only difference between the two is the side vents pointed out on my other post and the related heating ducts

Side vents or dash vents wernt on all or either and dependant on options
Ive seen some with and some without, some with the hole in the dash and a plastic cover clipped in the slot,others with vents for air con
Maybe its , as mentioned due to factory options
The elongated hole in the centre of the dash could be due to the MK has a clock up near the radio and different plugs and wiring ends, and the MQ just has a radio in this ssection
Theres 3 different dashes , and thanks for the few pics
1 has a nissan insignia,one has a clock and the other has a tacho on the left of the cluster
Youll notice and find a few differences as you go along with your build, dont go mix n matchin between the 2 when doin your build, easier to stick with whatever your petrol engined car has, and do the complete wiring ect for that

Thanks for that MQ, can't offer much to others bar the photos as don't quite have the tech/mech skills. Learning heaps myself by taking them and comparing them.

Also forgot to note earlier that the Glovebox on the MK is smaller than the MQ due to the side vent duct going behind it

There are especially in the MK utes (maybe cause their the povo packs ???) that share alot of the MQ stuff
Like steering wheel, radio dash section
Non turbo diesel engine, but the 5 speed box
These are sought after the SD33 n/a 5 speed box,due to great first gear better for climbing

More differences for the MQ / MK camps, this time the headlights, yes I know they've been brought up before however didn't know that they were this different
the MQ as most will know are round headlights however it looks like if a bulb blows you'd have to replace the whole headlight

I'm unsure (and would appreciate feedback ..MQ MAD) if I remove the 24volt bulb from the MK with a 12Volt bulb that it'd work with the MK fitting. Would delete having to do any mods changing the headlights over

The 7 " round headlights are a standard fitment on many cars of the era
IF you have a fitted bulb, just get a " H4 " headlight,they have the removable bulbs
These are avaliable in the rectangle style headlights as well
Just for your purpose,get " H4 "headlights and then use whatever powered bulbs you need for your project
Dont forget "Dont " touch H4 headlight bulbs with bare skin,use gloves,the oil in your skin is no good for them
