    Engine Flushing

    Hi all

Looking for comments on viability of additives to flush engine oil on a regular basis eg 50k or 100k.

Other threads have discussed oil brands etc but I could not find anything on this subject.

My TD42i has oil change (Penrite) every 5k and genuine Nissan filters every 10k.

The Valvoline product has been recommended but would appreciate comments from one and all.

    cheers

First off, Why would you only change filters every 10k when you're doing oil every 5? It defeats the purpose of doing an oil change as the 2 filters hold close to 1L of oil in them, so the 1L of dirty oil goes back through the fresh oil. Never knew why people go to trouble of doing an oil change ever 5k and don't bother doing the filters!

Oil flushes are always gonna get mixed feedback. Sometimes they can effectively clean to much and just move damaging particles around the motor. If you are doing regular servicing with the correct oil and filters then this is the best way to go about cleaning the motor. And as for your filter changes I would recommend doing these at the same time the oil is done or do your servicing the other way around filters at 5k and oil at 10k as oil doesnt break down it just gets dirty.
