I made my own as per a couple of posts ago.. the reason i prefer my set up is, all ladders that are connected to the car go either on the barn door or rear side.. considering my tent is at the back i would need to climb over the tent each time and when the tent is open could not use it at all. And mine is only 80 dollars.. not to mention it can be useful for anything else that may require a little extra height!!
I bought a step ladder from bunnings ($60) to aid opening the tent. Makes life MUCH easierOriginally Posted by Leighw85

But I see your problem about when the tent is open mate. But when it's open will you need to get up the ladder???
What a fantastic idea for the solar panels. After you slide them out, can you tilt them or do they stay rigid?

I have a feather light roof top tent its really quick to set up and you can leave some bedding in there, to save climbing up on the roof we have attached a string to the zipper. you will have to get on the roof unless you have a ladder to close it up. It is a great tent, the only down fall with roof toppers I have found is late night toilet trips and lightening storms.
Oh and its is really light hence the name.
