nowoolies, the bloke who owns the double gave me a spare strap on recoil pad following some shoulder surgery I had - I call it my man bra.
That may help :-)
growlers, the 6.5 x 55 isn't the flattest shooter around, but is flat enough, and with the right projectiles is very ballistically efficient, and is being rediscovered for long range shooting. There is some modern competition in that role too, same caliber, different case and powder. Mine shoots better than I do :-)
XTC, it was going to be an interesting trip to the Ripley Range today, alas called off because the bloke who owns the double, and another who owns a Winchester 92 in .45 long colt are a bit weary after a late arrival from Melbourne. The plan was we'd meet a local mate of mine out there, and have a play with the local bloke's .45 1911 pistol, and both rifles - a real smorgasbord of .45s. Oh well. We are off to a place near St George in a couple of days chasing oinkers, so I'll get to play with the rifles there.
It is a shame what was handed in, esp when there was an heirloom/family connection. I reckon you were by no means the only one.
