Mmmmm 6.5x55 I got to shoot a 1906 Carl gustaff (wrong spelling) Swedish Mauser action when I was a younger man. And wow what a weapon I think it's still one of the flattest and straightest rounds ya can get!!

IF YA DONT GET STUCK YA AINT TRYIN HARD ENOUGH........OR YA TOOK THE CHICKEN TRACK

I used to do a bit of pistol shooting many years ago, and used to cart around a 12 gauge coach gun when traveling but never really got into rifle shooting.

Handed in my coach gun when all the laws started to change. Kicked myself ever since, as the gun was a handmedown from my grandfather.

sorry growlers and nowoolies, must have got you mixed up last night :-(.

nowoolies, the bloke who owns the double gave me a spare strap on recoil pad following some shoulder surgery I had - I call it my man bra.
    That may help :-)

growlers, the 6.5 x 55 isn't the flattest shooter around, but is flat enough, and with the right projectiles is very ballistically efficient, and is being rediscovered for long range shooting. There is some modern competition in that role too, same caliber, different case and powder. Mine shoots better than I do :-)

XTC, it was going to be an interesting trip to the Ripley Range today, alas called off because the bloke who owns the double, and another who owns a Winchester 92 in .45 long colt are a bit weary after a late arrival from Melbourne. The plan was we'd meet a local mate of mine out there, and have a play with the local bloke's .45 1911 pistol, and both rifles - a real smorgasbord of .45s. Oh well. We are off to a place near St George in a couple of days chasing oinkers, so I'll get to play with the rifles there.

It is a shame what was handed in, esp when there was an heirloom/family connection. I reckon you were by no means the only one.

yeah, nowoolies, I gather that firing some of those big African and Indian doubles is only marginally better than being eaten or stomped on :-) I'm also told that in the field, standing, with a Cape Buff eyeing you off, the recoil goes un-noticed.

Maybe I'll have to get one of my mates to give me a fright to get the adreniline pumping before I have a shot :-)

Perhaps he could tell me that he is not shouting me the 2 crackers, and that I'll have to pay for same :-/
