Now that is a big toy in the man cave, there was a BBQ in the corner too
Went to a warbirds day at Ardmore in NZ, there was a Catalina there that flys, it had the wheel kit fitted for land based landing.
The pontoons on the wings fold up to make the end of the wing. They are only lowered for water landings.
During the war they flew from Australia to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in single missions, long & slow flights in a aluminium tube with no human comforts.
Lake Boga was a maintenance base as the lake was big enough to land / take off in any wind direction.
Also it was far enough away from the coast that the base could not be attacked by carrier based aircraft of the day.
A plane with an interesting history.
