    Clutch slipping, what to do?

Hi guys, I'm away at the moment visiting olds on tappa so hard to type.

I noticed when under load changing from 3rd to 4th to power up hills and at around 2.1k revs as soon as you drop it in 4th and power up slightly it sometimes jumps up and down a bit so I'm guessing the clutch is slipping a bit under load.

That's the only time it happens. My question is what do you guys recommend?

Have I got a long time before it's an issue, is it worth the risk?

I drop clutch in first with handbrake on and stalled straight away but not sure if that's the best test or not.

Any recommendations on a type of new clutch too?

Little bit concerned about our trip coming up in a few weeks too.

    Cheers for any advice!

Heres one to check old mate....

I had a problem not so long ago with a customers Rig.... It was doing something similar to what you've explained. The clutch in this thing was only 1500k old so I pretty much ruled it out & went on the hunt. I found that because the clutch fluid hadn't been changes from now it had built up moisture & started rusting the slave cylinder. the Rig is not a daily & after sitting it had started to rust up the normal path of travel of the slaves piston. Now this didn't jam it but what I found it was doing was slowing down the piston return hence holding the clutch out a tad & it was slipping a little under load. What maid it a hard one to find was it wouldn't do in all the time. it was more an intermittent thing.

The thing about this little story is that the clutch was replaced in the first place to rid them of this problem............ Go figure.

I agree with Paul that it would be a good idea to check the master and slave cylinders first, much cheaper and easier to do than a clutch as well.
From my experience Patrol clutches give little to no warning that they are about to let go which is not entirely consistant with what you are experiencing. Not saying that's it's not your clutch just check everything else first.

Sliding off the clutch in 4th at stand still is a better way to check clutch bite than first gear.

For a turbo engine the Daiken Safari Tuff clutches would be the most popular choice. Not cheap but well proven.

New slave is around the $40 mark & a new master (well im priceless hahaha) is around the $130 mark if you run a clutch booster & a bit cheaper again if you don't.

Give me a buzz before you rip it down....I've got a few good tricks for you as well.
