Well guys … I don't really know how to tell you this, so I'll just come out with it. Bit of a long story so please stick with me.
I was out in the backyard this morning chopping some firewood for the spit when Nubby comes out and asks what all the noise is about. I told him I was chopping firewood, and that he could watch if he stayed out of the road. He was well behaved …. for a few minutes.
He kept moving about and looking from all around, and then he just got too close and with one quick swing of the axe, he was …. split in half!
I was shocked! I had just told him to stand clear as I didn't want him to get hurt but it was too late. I wrapped him up and jumped into the Cruiser and headed to the local hospital. Luckily we have the LS2 in the Cruiser and not some smokey old turbo diesel, as time is the key with accidents like this.
We were in town at the hospital in no time and headed straight to emergency (the little blighter even let me stop and take a photo on the way).
When we walked into emergency they put him straight on a bed as they could see it was touch and go. I must admit he hardly said a thing throughout this whole ordeal … tough? Maybe … could also be that I had put the axe straight through his mouth.
The doctors checked him out and informed me that I hadn't hit any major organs or arteries and that they should be able to save him. Phew! I'd never hear the end of it from Darren if the little guy died. The head surgeon told me that the would have to staple up the wounds (he assured me that he would use dissolvable staples, but you look at the photos and tell me if you think they will dissolve) and bandage him up and given a few days he should come good.
So all stapled up and bandages going on I started to feel better about axe-a-ma-dentally slicing him up, and bundled him into the car for the ride home. He must have been feeling better by now as he kept telling me how awesome the V8 sounded and just loved how it drove and handled. I know Nubby … I know!
So now he is safely back at my place and resting in bed. I think I'll let him sleep for the rest of the night and see how he pulls up in the morning.
Oh - nearly forgot. With all the bandages on him, I thought I would sign one of them … you know, like people do when they break an arm or a leg and have to have a cast put on it …
