Thread: Any Particular Grease?? Also Air in Diesel Line

    Question Any Particular Grease?? Also Air in Diesel Line

    G'day all,
    I Need some technical advise from all you Troll nuts haha

    Apart from doing my regular service tomorrow I will be re-packing my wheel bearings tomorrow as they are making some weird noises on drivers side, my question is..
    Is there a grease that i should pack the bearings with thats better than others? I have been told to use Castrol HTB (high temperature bearing)... Is there anything else thats better than this or will it be fine?
    Im more than happy to spend abit extra if need be, just thought i would check before i go buy some new grease tomorrow..


    Just for referance, my troll is a 2002 Wagon with ZD30..
    My second problem is when the troll is parked overnight its a bugger in the morning's (never plays up after first start in morning).. Sometimes it will start and run for a couple of seconds and then die (will stall everytime if parked nose up), other times after it's started (after about 15-20 seconds) the revs drop and it makes a weird sound like a loud vibration.. I think i have diagnosed this back with the help of some mates, that there is a air leak in a fuel line somewhere that's very small and draining the diesel back to the tank over night??
    Is there a way to diagnose where the leak is? A mate suggested that i put a small flapper fuel pump (max pressure is under 8 psi) on the system for a couple of hours and let the pressure build up.. This might show a wet spot.. Any other ideas anyone as its now just really pi$$in me off in the mornings

    Don't worry about bearings I ended up using the Castrol HTB, just finishing off second side now.. Pass side was full of mud Haha.. Still looking for this damn air leak in diesel line though

    Mine does it if its left for a week or so. I asked this question and got your diagnosis as an answer. Yup theres a leak somewhere in the system just gottta find it. Let me know when you do hahahahahahaha I have to bleed mine at the fuel pump tho, but its not me daily dve so i put up with it hahaha

    Unfortunatly mine is a daily driver and it does it every morning so very annoying lol.. No luck finding it today though.. Wheel bearings are all now though so thats good at least

    where ever the leak is in the line, assuming most of the line is visible ( not sure lol) would there be any discoloration as an indication? Just encase you haven't already thought of this.

    I have thought about it and checked all the lines, however as troll is a diesel and has an injector pump, it only sucks up fuel as needed.. Line never has any pressure in it from tank as doesn't have a fuel pump.. Virtually most of the line is solid pipe from close to the tank up to just before the filter.. Only rubber hoses i haven't changed are at the tank and this is because i have to unbolt the tank to do so

    Hmmm righto, I do know the lines are pretty thin in width, can feel your pain trying to fine a crack in them lol Other than checking all connections are done up properly is there a way to run a hose of sort from the tank to the fuel filter? Then if it stops you atleast know it's between the filter and tank or vice versa if it still happens you know it's between the filter and injectors? Even if there was a crack wouldn't you notice this in normal driving conditions because air would get in the line and your engine wouldn't run smooth?? I've had air in the line before and the truck shaked and would sound awful.
    Sort of throwing blanks here mate trying to help you out, not an expert on these sorts of things. Just food for thought

    is there a way to block the breather and slightly pressurise the tank? Get a second hand or otherwise cheap fuel cap and butcher it to allow a couple of PSI?

    otherwise, park it nose downhill, I did that for years in my MQ after it developed a leak through a hole in the plenum chamber under the windscreen :-) Nose downhill kept the interior nice and dry :-)

    Castrol HTB works fine for me in wheel bearings. I'm a slacker though, I always replace them with new ones, rather than clean and repack, and I do my best to stay away from water deep enough to get into 'em, being la2y by nature :-)

    Thanks for the tips mate.. Will try that.. i Dont mind cleaning and re-packing bearings, i actually kinda enjoy doing it for some reason lol.. More just curious to see what grease people use
