What were Nissan trying to sell you the whole door? $380???, good find with the ebay one.

I think there were a few vehicles with battle wounds (hey Murray) from the weekend.

I think I need to get some stronger side steps.

I took Silver's side steps off.

Farming cousin says rock sliders are good, but on the farm can pick up sticks and drive them into the floor. Mentioned that at Scenic Rim, and the answer was that some sliders don't pick up sticks. Dunno what the difference is??

I cant see how sliders would be any different to my standard side steps with regards to the sticks...who knows?

But at least the sliders should protect my sills and the bottom of my front guards.

agree that the sliders will protect from rocks, and it seems the right sliders also don't pick up too many sticks.

At the end of the day, sticks are more of a problem in paddocks than on the tracks we drive.

Cousin is a pretty handy chap on the tools who has broken with family tradition (Landrovers in the 50s, 60s, and Tojos in the 70s to date) and drives a GU ute.

Re the sticks, sliders mostly attach to chassis, not to sills and floor which is how steps attach, so there are outriggers from chassis. And sliders often look like ladders, not smooth sheet metal steps. Farming cousin's point was about sliders picking up sticks and driving them into the floor, not tyres chucking sticks about.

I guess what I am saying is that if I was looking for sliders, and I could get good sliders that were less likely to pick up sticks, I'd go for them.

We drove some pretty easy tracks at Mt Mee today, but I lost count of the number of sticks that went 'Clunk' somewhere.

One dinged 04OFF's door and just missed his elbow. So, while they are much more of an issue in farm paddocks, the slider that repels rocks and sticks seems to me to be the goods

I fitted the sliders to mine literally on Thursday night, and would have to say that the usual punishment the sills took from sticks etc that rear up from being driven over was non existent ... let alone the actual use they're intended for which saw me taking the new powder coat off in three separate places but no damage to Tank. Love em!!!!

Yes, less sticks on tracks than in Cousin's paddocks :-)

After now discovering i have actually punched the other sidestep up and bent the gaurd on the other side of my car as well (not as bad as drivers side) ive just ordered some sliders myself.

Ive ordered a set with a 5mm thick flat steel skid plate right along the bottom.

From Bolsys ,$600 a pair, and he is less than a hour from my place so i can pick em up ....

    pic'c HERE

To be honest, they are not the "exact" design i would have chosen, but i cant wait any longer for the other person i really wanted to get some from , and very sick of fixing the damage, $600 is good value when a GU plastic flare costs $400 new.

My mate has a set of these sliders on his GQ (without the plate) and said they are very tuff, mine should be ready before i do my rock hopping on fraser, so may pay for themselves sooner than later ?
