    Alternator issue 4.2TD Patrol 2003

    G'day all,

So I have a question about my Alternator.. I have a dual battery system with a smart controller in cab. So the other day when we decided to go camping I noticed that only the main battery was charging but only just. Then after the 5 min was up and it switches to both batteries it did not show any charge what so ever going to either battery, yet the 2nd battery needed charging after running the fridge all night.. So while my misses was in ordering a coffee I put the mullti-meter on it and it was only making just over 12 volts (last week when I checked it it was making 14.4 on idle) So then the next day it started charging both battery's but only just and was feeding in about 13 volts JUST..(normally its charging between 13.7 to 14.2) Now this morning its showing charge at 13.5 volts..

So after all that rambling my question is can my alternator just be starting to give up and die and would this be what its doing jumping all over the place..

    Cheers Steve
