Camp Oven Bread with Beer instead of Yeast

Well my kitchen smells like a brewery.

    Not sure about this one

Right. Time to check back in with photos and recipes.

    1st Loaf

Honestly a bit worried. I had never cooked bread without yeast and was wondering if it really will work with beer. Most of the yeast in beer is killed (it's a living organism) during the cooking process.

    SO.....
    I use a 9qt Dutch Oven.

    3 Cups plain Flour
1 Cp S/R (only because I am ye of little faith)
    1 Tbsp Sugar
    2 Tbsp Milk Powder
Stubby (I used a Coopers Pale Ale 375ml - Cheers Growler - it was a leftover from the Adoption Drive)

Warm the beer - Sacrilege I know.

Mix all the dry ingredients together and aerate with your fingers
Slowly mix the beer though the dry mix.
Turn the dough out onto a floured board / bench / bonnet.
Work the dough until it's a nice little bundle.

Place into the greased (Don't miss this step) Camp Oven
Allow it to rest (you'd want to rest after having the crap pummelled out of you too).
    It won't do much rising.

Whack it into your hot coals. Some on top of the lid.

    Voila

When I was cutting it open - I could smell the beer.

    It didn't deter anyone

He ran for the home made butter

I found it left a slight beer / bitter taste behind.

Loaf number 2 is in the oven!!
