I have a 1996 GQ 2.8 Turbo Diesel wagon. This problem started an intermittent one but it is getting worse. The oil pressure has dropped from being just under 4 on the gauge to just over 2 for normal running. There is also a tapping noise in the top end that also varies in severity. There is a oil leak that appears to be coming from the oil pump. At first I thought that it was the sump but I have re-sealed the sump and replaced the oil pressure regulator at the same time. Could the oil pressure regulator spring have broken causing this or can a gasket leak on the oil pump cause low pressure. Or worse case, could the oil pump be failing?
