Genuine manual locking hub. Found on 98% of GQs and on most GU Ute's. I know atleast until 2006 this applies. Not AVM and not Chinese knock off's.

It is true that you need to define the weakest link and allow for it. Popping a hub is not that big a deal and carrilyung 1 hub that will fit either side for the win. But I uave now smashed a few CVs and also broken an axle twice. Watching Rossco smash his CV the other day on a track with Zero traction swinging off a winch rope ans the wheel lifted maybe 2 inches and Pop it was over. Gentle gentle. First time I sheared an Axle it was exactly the same, Pop and it's over.
I reckon every comp soec winch truck would carry that spare hub to swap out in 5 minutes for the win every time.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Spent the morning tracking down an injured kangaroo that was in my project work area, by the time we got to it it had died, so came back to the office to clear my mind, and bugger me, didn't this just do the trick.Superior FWH.jpg

@MudRunnerTD, I trawled thru the internet yesterday to gauge the actual strength upgrade between the factory axles and hub materials and found this written.
The 4140 material is approx twice the strength, torsion in particular of the factory axle, not including the benefits of removing the stress notch when reducing the axle diameter to suit the 27 t spline, and the 300M material is 1.5 times stronger than 4140. Tensile and shear values are higher than standard alo. The heat treatment is different. The 300m material is thru hardened, whilst the 4140 has a case harden of sorts, either way both are pretty tuff.

300M is a modified 4340. Can be 150-190% stronger than 4140. 4140 is more than up to the task so 300M is overkill and unlikely to break.
I believe superior use to make a lot of their arms from 4140 and have moved some if not a lot of their arms to the 300M alloy.

Picked up a set of the trail safe axle seals, noticed a slight weep from one side when last home, will give these a run instead of the genuine units
