I finialy got around to puting my Gu steering box in my Gq and all seemed fine until it gets hot and the noises it makes is like there is air still in the system and it starts pushing fluid out of the cap at full lock, but when it is cold all is good so I compared the systems together and low and behold the Gu has 2 oil coolers on it and nothing has ever been said about adding PS coolers on along with the Gu box
Merry Christmas FP mate
Never knew the GQ/GU steering boxes could be swapped, great to know
FWIW, on my GU hills ute I ended up replacing the stock twin PS coolers hindering a decent winch location needed to a single Davies Craig mounted tranny cooler adapted directly behind the high mount.
Road steering will not see our hoses near burst but twisting bigger rubber downhill (even in snow) will make our stock hydraulics work pretty hard mate!
EDIT: To bleed mate, easiest to jack your front end up and steer hard left/right whilst engine pumping a few dozen times and keeping an eye on PS top up levels needed whilst getting rid of dem dang bubbles within :-)

Reckon you could quite easily when time permits cut into the GQ loop mate for cooling if found needed after bleeding.
A professional cut and flaring of the incoming and outgoing lines would allow you to modify although please do be careful as I am certainly no pressure or mechanical expert :-(
