this is a thermostat from a td42. seized open.
couldn't get it warm normal driving had to thrash it up a steep hill to warm it a bit.
then it would cool off pretty quickly.
if its worth doin its worth over doin

Just installed VDO temp gauge in ute and noticed same issue. Temps vary from about 75 to 85 degrees depending on load when on the move but yesterday in Brisvagas traffic noticed temp just once drop to about 50 when stopped at lights. New thermostat installed at same time as new Dessert Cooler radiator and gauge.
At the end of the day, all you have is yourself and all you need is your friends (and in our case our Patrol)
2006 GUI1 4.2TDi Coil Cab "almost" standard
Hmm interesting.. did you test thermostat before installing?

But if your working your engines hard and temps rise a bit while at it, when you back of go slow stop and idle
then the temps are going to drop any way ?
