    First tow

Ok did my first tow with my 2000 GU 3L DI with all the fruit NADS ect ect,I just bought a older 15ft caravan, cruising along egt's at around 350 on the flat on hills around 480 so pretty happy with that but one hill I was chugging up the, the temp shot up to 3/4 on the gauge, but once I reached the top and started descending the temp came back down to where it usually sits just under the half way mark, It does have new water pump and good quality coolant, as ive only owned the bus for about 3 months, should I be concerned about the temp rising that high? maybe I should fit a new thermostat and a new alloy radiator?? or is this high temp rise just how these 3L engines are under tow?

    First tow

Mixing different coolants can cause gluginess causing small blockages in the radiator. (AKA: Goats syndrome)
Water still pumps through which can seem all ok.
Have a search for Goats thread for a bit more info.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...ad.php?t=14281

EGTs will climb or any hill but try not to let them linger for too long
Remove the radiator and have it serviced, it may have heaps of mud in the lower fins
A copper radiator is more robust than an alloy one
Did you sort out the Ecu-talk??

I would be concerned. I tow a heavy off road caravan and the temp gauge rarely moves at all. There are lots of threads on here about cooling problems, but I would go to a reputable radiator place and get the radiator removed - rodded out - the entire system checked - and I would replace all consumables (radiator cap, thermostat and hoses). It may cost a couple of bucks but nothing like the price of a cooked motor or the stress of being stuck in the middle of no where.

go down the car wash and clean the radiator don't pull the trigger as that's too powerful.
better if you pull it out and clean it though, you may be surprised

as for your engine light a lot of threads here associate that with blocked fuel filters or similar
