    ABS Sensor Death

    Hi all,

After having had the 'trol layed up for a few months during our pitiful summer, it was a bit of a shocker to find on its first trip out it violently pulled to the right on gentle braking, but not on hard application of the brakes!

After a visit to my usual garage, and some investigation it appears that the ABS Sensor has failed.

Does anybody know the part numbers or any better suggestions? The Nissan main dealer want $$$ for diagnosis and even more for a sensor but won't tell me part numbers just a quote number

    Zeeman,
this is just to say g'day to someone from the old country while you wait for someone who knows something to help.
Never had a 2.8 so can't help. Presume you've downloaded the appropriate workshop manual and checked the schematics for the system. Don't know about the parts manuals/lists, 'though I believe they're gold.
Assume it's one of the front wheel sensors as the rear wheels don't usually have a savage effect on line under brakes. Although I've got ABS on my current 3.0CRD I'm not sure how the computer system works with the data it collects from the individual sensors.Would hope it was a problem with one only sensor rather than the computor itself.
The sensors, (well at least on mine) are in a position where they can get totally gunged up with grease/sand/crap/mud etc. etc.. Have you taken them off (it's quite easy) and cleaned them?
If the gurus take a while to get to you with the answer, look for wreckers in your general area who specialise in 4X4s. They're generally pretty clued up on what lasts and what goes wrong.
    Good luck
    Col

hi all, and thanks for all your help

Well the update is : She's off to the Nissan main dealer, since Patrols are rare here in the UK, and not that many places see them, let alone fix them - my local independent garage has tried but cannot help.

So she is heading to a dealer in a nearby town, not the local city dealer who knows nothing about anything other than small "city" Nissans - Micra, Note and others with an engine the size of a sewing machine !
