    Need new alternator

Hi all, I'm looking to ditch the 2nd alternator and go single set up. My current alternator need repairing, has a dodgy diode in it. I am tossing up whether to repair it or go with a high output job. It's a 93 TD42 with the vacuum pump on it. Is 70A enough? That's what I've got at the moment or should I really be going for a 100A?

How much power do you use, and how big are your batteries? Can your batteries handle a 100A output?

I have a single battery at the moment but will be going dual batteries. Got a 40L Engel and a big 240W LED bar plus HID spotties and headlights.

Lights drawing maybe 30-40 amps when all blaring. Engel 4.5- -6 amps on and off.
100 amp would be fine can you do a bosch conversion? ,
I did it on the Toyota saved a fortune on rebuilds
Need to find a bosch with end housings to match,
How about a change over alternator ???

    Hey Winnie,

If you are going to fork out the coin for a new alternator and can afford the bigger one and it works fine in your rig, that would be the way I would go, future proofing.

No point putting a new 70 amp in if 12 months down the track you have all the latest and greatest 12volt gizmos in the beast.

After all you may decide you want one of these.

WoW 120 amps that'd do it, they just need more revs to excite them from memory
You get 5 years warranty on the other, That's what I'd be putting on my ride
5yrs on an alternator go for it most clag out in a few months off road, see what it covers
