OK, I'm measuring my axle so I purchase the correct brake and hub but I'm a bit confused where to measure it. There's 39, 40, 45, etc,

Is this where I need to measure it. I have 40mm in this section

Take your old bearing into a bearing shop, trailer shop they will be measured and youll get the right replacements first up ...
A trailer here i wanted to go from holden wheels to ford, the bearings and hubs are a mix of the two,as the axle diameters are different
Goin to a 4x4 wheels, i think from memory there a bigger axle again and a flat not tapered bearing as its better for load, but being a wee trailer like that ,with brakes whats its total load ,tonne ???
You could even clean up the old bearings, and get the part numbers of them, but IF your changing hubs to a different bolt pattern, your best to go into theses places
2 hubs and bearings for the trailer above, over 3 years ago,was just over $80 ...

ATM is only 750kg so brakes aren't needed but the handbrake is bloody handy so I'll put mechanical brakes back on....electric is an overkill for the current setup but if I upgrade then I'll need them .

I'm pretty sure its a 40mm square axle so legally I'm limited to 14" wheel diameter and it has 16s on it now. I think I'll need to change the whole axle/hub/brake if I want something stronger. If I just change to a bigger hub the axle is still underated and a weak point

Yeah that would do it. Any trailer/ebay shop will have hubs with electric brakes, BUT it will
still have holden/ford bearings. I specified I wanted 6 stud hubs thinking they would be stronger,
BUT nah just Holden/ford bearings. Maybe not worth the trouble of sourcing bigger load bearing,
bearings, I wonder what the more $$$$$ camper trailer use, wouldn't it be funny ha ha if they
used only holden/ford bearings, weak link there eh

    Kris,

If you are going 6 stud hubs you will need a 45mm diameter axle, you are probably better off to find a trailer shop and get the whole axle, bearings and hubs all ready fitted up then come home and bolt the whole setup to your springs.

Can't help with the brake side of things, but a good trailer shop should point you in the right direction

    Good luck with it,

STD backing plate measure centre to centre both ways take a pic plus old bearing sweeeeet as

If you only want to change from 5 to 6 stud just but new hubs, If you feel you need 50 x 50 solid axle
measure from hub to hub where rim hit hub allow for off set and tyre bulge. it may not fit under your
guards, My last trailer only just fit 285s

I can tell you that Jayco uses a mixture of Ford & Holden, I contacted them to check and they confirmed it. Ended up having Ford in mine.
