I won't use one, as it is hard to quantify when it is over or under oiled.
its not that hard at all. if you let it sit as per the instructions, if sections of the element are a lighter colour its under oiled. The excess oil will drain off.

I am happy with the balance of information provided on this thread. Have already had a head ache with Thelmas MAF sensor so I have no desire to go down that path again so will be applying the 'less is more' phylosophy when servicing the filter and if not happy, will put an original back in until the K&N is adequately drained and the same colour all over. Will also keep the original handy J.I.C. Thanks Ben.

Thanks Ben-e-boy.... I should have quantified that I use one on my motorbike and I am happy to use it for that purpose, and even know how to oil it too.

It is hard to know who you are talking too at the other end of the internet, so sometimes it is best to give the information that the majority seem to think is the best solution. I have heard ( not seen ) of quite a few oil coated MAF's and their particular owners with problems...

I have just put one one of these filters in my 08crd and now i have just found this thread which has me a little concerned about the MAF. I already knew about the filter letting in more dust but
I was just going to carry a genuine nissan filter with me and change it over when we hit the dirt.

Has anyone got any more info since the last post in 2012???

I've had one in mine since the exhaust went on. (Basically from new) and haven't had a problem with it. (YET LOL)
I do have two filter, one spare and just change and clean and re-oil after dusty trips.

Got one in my Di. No issues. And you wont see issues unless you over oil it. I use the spray on oil and that makes it very easy to apply and NOT over oil it.

The trick is to not wash them too regularly. I've heard from several mechanics that for any air filter to be effective, require a certain amount of usage(ie dust and crap) to block the large openings in the filter.

The trick to high mileage engines is regular oil changes and not so regular air filter changes as dust does cause considerable wear to the engines internals.
IMO and should be taken with a grain of salt.
