Thanks folks.
I've printed out these few pages of the forum and about to take them to the sparky, with the spare key.
Stay tuned.

I called into the Nissan workshop today and they said the problem is with the NATS, but they can't pin-point which of the 3 components is the faulty one. Should know more later this arvo.
Thanks for all your suggestions

Problem has been determined to be the solenoid on the rear of the fuel pump

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.
Don't know yet mate. Should know more late Monday.

Got a call from the local dealership this arvo, said that the solenoid is working fine, the problem appears to be in the control module.
They can by-pass the module and have it running, just won't have NATS,
OR they could get me a price on a replacement module.
Who wants to guess how much $ $

I'll guess about $1000.......I would just bypass it.
$8500 or there abouts. Nissan only sell the module as a complete unit with the solenoid and IP.
I knew Nissan stuff was dear, but feck me!

I am in the same boat right now and I am pretty sure it is the NATS that has demobilized the car. My light is flashing and when I insert either of my 3 keys it becomes solid red. Acording to the small instruction manual that comes with the car, that means the key has not been recognised. "Please go to your nearest Nissan dealer... ... ..."
I have a Haynes Manual on the car but I am that tired of that book, it has nothing more advanced than how to undo the bolts in the interior, does anyone have some real electrical diagrams on a GU 4.2TD from 2000.
