    Bubbles

    Hi all,

Was driving my Patrol today from one side of Perth to the other (About 30 k's) and when I got to my destination noticed a bubbling sound coming from under the hood.
On closer inspection there appeared to be bubbles coming into the radiator overflow bottle. Sounded like someone had boiled the kettle !
Was a pretty hot day and a bit of stop start traffic. Fair bit of heat coming from the engine bay, but while driving the temp gauge was pretty much where it usually is, fluctuating around the half way to 2/3 mark.

Anybody know if this is a bad thing? Or just because it was a bit hot. Doing some beach stuff and a Dongara run in the next couple of weeks and really don't wanna break it !

    Cheers
    Simon

have it looked at I run 1/3 to half way on my temp guage 03 model zd30 motor. it only get hotter giving it some curry up steep sand dunes. Check your cooland and dump it if it isn't fresh and replace radiator cap. check for blockages and flush radiator. have the engine running with cap off and if bubbles in you water or your oil has milky white then could be head has packed it in.

The cooling system is a sealed unit. When it heats up, the fluid expands, when it cools it contracts. The overflow bottle is there to catch the fluid when it expands (overflows). It is common to hear the fluid moving after the car is turned off. The fuid in the cooling system actually gets hotter for a few minutes just after the car is turned off (fan is not cooling it but engine block is still putting heat into it).
To be on the safe side, have a check of the system and keep a close eye on the fluid level in the overflow bottle.

    Thanks for your replies all,

I'll pick yours as the winner taslucas !
In Jan this year I has a problem with the oil filter alloy plate on the side of the engine. Was corroded and leaking - now since repaired. Whilst doing this I replaced the coolant, top and bottom radiator hoses, thermostat and radiator cap. Has been working flawlessly since.
Just did all the fan belts, distributor cap and dizzy about 2 mths ago as well.
One thing I haven't done is the clutch on the fan. I take it you are referring to the viscous clutch I think it's called Chester?
Might be the next cab off the rank. Anyone know if its a big job?

Also I've been thinking about a new radiator for a while. Anyone got any suggestions/recommendations ??
The vehicle is a 92 GQ TB42E Auto with petrol/Gas.

    Cheers
