I had a problem not so long ago with a customers Rig.... It was doing something similar to what you've explained. The clutch in this thing was only 1500k old so I pretty much ruled it out & went on the hunt. I found that because the clutch fluid hadn't been changes from now it had built up moisture & started rusting the slave cylinder. the Rig is not a daily & after sitting it had started to rust up the normal path of travel of the slaves piston. Now this didn't jam it but what I found it was doing was slowing down the piston return hence holding the clutch out a tad & it was slipping a little under load. What maid it a hard one to find was it wouldn't do in all the time. it was more an intermittent thing.
The thing about this little story is that the clutch was replaced in the first place to rid them of this problem............ Go figure.
