I can see the next thread now "Burnt GU" the full story :P
Hahahaha Sorry mate couldnt resist. It is nice however to see a little more friendly banter been thrown around its been a tad serious lately. It seems we may be over that way on sunday so if your not busy and the girl doesnt change her mind I might try and stop in
I know what you mean , the way i see it, this is my thread, so you feel free to go ahead and say what you please and have a bit of a laugh i hope mate ;)
I happy for you to come around (if you can get "permission" from the boss ,hahahah), but the troll is still over at the WOVI place mate, and by the sounds of things (they are very busy and inspectors have been off sick), im not sure ill even see it by the weekend.
I tell you, If you saw where i had to leave the car, and the people i saw in this area, plus the fact that i can't get insurance on it till its registered, (and the whole situation really), you will understand why i wont be getting any real sleep untill i get it back ! :frown:
Is it at Logan lol
ha-ha,
The best way to describe how i feel is........ imagine if you had to leave your car parked overnight, at some seedy, dark ,back street train station car park, in some crime ridden area, plus you have no insurance on your car, and add to that you gave your keys to a complete stranger who holds no responsibility for any damage, and then your one night, suddenly turns into four nights or more..........
I thought they renamed Inala.........:)
Thank you so much that is brilliant... err which way is your relay wired..
Was almost thinking of running 2 compressors?????
Been having sleepless nights for 4 days now due to a cold and last night was building rear draws and compressor in my head while I lay there ???!!!!!
The relay has a total 4 connecting terminals (or pins) , 2 pins at one end (end A) will have markings that read 3-32V DC , one pin is marked + , this pin gets power when you flick your toggle switch ON, the other pin is the negative earth, and goes to the body of the car (or to a good earth)
The other end also has 2 pins (end B), and will have markings 100amps 30V DC , this end, one pin has the big power wire coming from your battery, the other pin goes to the power wire "in" for your compressor.
Ask the dudes at jaycar to explain it while in your hand if your not sure (BTW , they have a cheaper 40 amp version, that may be all you need)
Anyway, effectivly........... when you put power and earth across the pins at end A, the relay joins or connects the 2 pins at end B.
I only used 2 compressors because thats what i had, i used both at once because they are far from the most powerful flow rate in the world, plus only have a 20min duty cycle for my usage, so it made sense to double up (because i had 2 pumps anyway), i still liked the idea of using them and not buying faster pumps, as the ones i have are the TJM pumps, and are well known to be very reliable (important when they are hidden in your gaurd)
After that i decided it would not be much more effort to make them independant should a pump die.
If you can get a decent reliable pump with a good flow rate, i would probly not even bother with twin pumps to be honest
Ok , i got knocked back on my first inspection, the inspector said i had done a really nice job on the car, (and commented on how nice the paint was), but they could not read the VIN number, the one stamped into the chassis.(too much black anti-beach stuff.lol)
Had to sand blast the VIN number on the chassis so it could be read (well seen at all really), big thanks to Bigrig (Scotty) who used his sand blaster to get it visible.
Then a quick re-vist so the inspector could check the VIN number and all passed, so i finally got it registered yesterday !
Still got a few things to do to 100% finish the car, but regestration is still quite a bit of a milestone for me really
Brilliant news mate!!
Bloody brilliant mate...... its been a long road thats for sure and that is one big hurdle out the way!!!
Now for some fun ....!!
Sweet :D:D:D
Took a trip up to Bribie Island today, car went quite well, was great to get out :D
Saw this unfortunate car stranded in a odd position.......

No one around, looked quite recent going by the belongings still with the car, it was also very obvious the tide had been in on it at least once.
stuck in a hole *L*
Great news on getting it back on the road Steve :)
Woo Hoo Good onya mate good to hear.
Thanks guys, the car looked great out on the beach under the sun, turned a few heads i think (i probly shudda got some pics eh?)
Onboard Compressor system worked well, pumped all 4 tyres (32s) from 20psi back to about 42psi, in about 5 min 30sec, was hassle free, and didn't annoy me waiting at all, worth all the effort :D
04OFF I take my hat off to you! I have never seen anyone go to the lengths as you have to get a car back on the road. Thanks for a great read!
Cheers
Remmy
Righto Steveo time for mums taxi to get back on the road ;)
Sent from my iPhone using Motorculture mobile app
Great to see the GU rolling again Steve,
definately need pics!!
For about 20 yrs ive had a torrie at my place, and mumstaxi is by far the best, most reliable and fastest car ive ever had, and i can honestly say, ive had more fun in that car over the years than anything else ive ever owned.
But to be honest, the way the things are now in QLD, and now after rebuilding the troll (it has taken such a huge toll on me and the family), plus the stupid prices torries are fetching, im seriously concidering just selling mumstaxi for the driveline/parts :frown:
Soon Gavin, soon, gotta get all the dust off the camera as well (its been a while), ill be smashing the pics out soon enough tho, i really like the way the car is starting to look now, so once its all finished the way i want it, ill probly go a bit crazy with the pics
Can't wait!!
Ok so got my alloys and 33s on this week, went up to bribie for the day, very happy with how the KM2s went in the sand.
Remembered to take the camera this time, had to think about how to use it its been that long

Mate those pics are top quality just plain awesome. I need to get out for a run with you to get some nice pics of my GU.
Nice Steve :)
So what's the next project now that you have so much spare time now???
Going to build up a GQ *L*
Looking much better with the new wheels mate..... love the shots as usual!!
We decided to take the car over to North Stradbroke Island for a holiday, id managed to get my cargo barrier sorted, and just get my 33 spare on the back door, and also just got the main two Lightforce spotlights fitted, it took me ages to hook em up, because i wanted them wired through the car alarm to hopefully prevent theft.
So anyway, on the car ferry , we are sitting in our car (on the ferry) as the ferry moved off, the people from the car in front of us (a old ute) had left their car, and gone to the cafe upstairs on the ferry.
But.....the stupid driver of the ute in front, forgot to put his handbrake on, so as the ferry (a powerfull twin hull cat) put the power on as it got into open water, his loaded car came crashing back at a fair pace, right into the front of the troll, and sat there wedged against my spotlights and bullbar FFS ! :jawdrop:
Knowing if i moved my car back, the ute would just roll back further, i had little option but to leave it resting on the front of the car, the mrs offered to go looking for the owner, i accepted her offer, knowing my words would most likley not be fitting to be blurted out in a busy cafe with kids around etc.
When the old guy (ute owner) turned up i kept cool, he opologised and moved his car forward, and Lucky there was no damage i could see to my car, the spotlights took it well, and just needed a bit of re-alinment, a person could have easily been standing in front of the car and got crushed, so i appreciate how much worse this situation could have been, so just let it go..... but OMFG ! :sterb003:
Bloody hell Steve
Geezus mate.... very lucky there was no damage!
Whoops. Lucky there was no damage. After all the effort that you put into this it would be a shame for it to go to waste.
Thanks for sharing. Hope I've picked up something that might stop that happening to me.
Glad all of you are alright and feel for you.
Cheers
Ant
Well done on the rebuild Steve. Can't wait to see it in the flesh.
They say it comes in three Steve, better give me that pretty GU of yours to look after for a while
So car went well during its week on straddie.
Couple of vids .....
These water crossings are often a bit deeper.....although the one at 1min10, tested the seals on the spot lights (haha)

I think i got 10% of the way up the hill (lol)

I also got some minor pin stripe on a few of the tracks we took, yep its still a fourby .......

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...pinstripe2.jpg
After my water crosings at straddie (vid above) i found moisture in my headlights, ive done deeper crossings and not had a problem before.
After removing the lights to check for leaks, (and finding none) ive come to the conclusion, the front tube bar allows water to hit the radiator support unprotected, and so on a deep crossing, this water is directed straight up behind the headlight, and a small amount of water can enter the breather on the back of each light.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...707_113954.jpg
My solution, is to extend the breathers .......

Some pics of my custom cargo barrier, it started life as a Pajero barrier (patrol ones don't have the window/door), i cut it down so i can fold the seats down and put long objects underneath, it also weighs a lot less, and is much easier to remove.

Custom mounts attach to the factory 3rd row seat bolts..

Big thanks to Bigrig (scotty) who welded all the bits together for me, he is a self taught welder, but i tell you, this man can weld like a pro, all the welds are outstanding, and even for a fussy mo-fo like me, the welds required little to no cleaning/sanding afterwards before paint.
:)
Just realised didn't have a pic with spotties on, so here.....
