Good to hear.
Great news!
Good news nicko, long time coming but worth the wait, glad your back on the road mate. :)
Good to see you back on the road again Nick.
Here's to many years of trouble free motoring
Great news Nic, glad to see your up and running again. Mine died last night so might have to wait a tiny bit before we go out. Nothing major, just a clutch slave cylinder, more just a pain in the butt. I look forward to catching up.
Good stuff Rusty many many miles ahead of you now eh.
nice one mate, lets hope it's here for the long haul..........
No worries see you then :-).
Great news Nic, you deserve some good luck.
Great to see you again Nic and big thanks for giving me a hand.
Your rig looks fantastic, never seen such a shiny Patrol ;-), let's change that soon. Your new motor looks the goods and drives really nice, and with NADS on it from the start should see you through many years of happy Patrolling.
PS: your blinkers look ace!
so ive been driving the car fro about a week now, EGT Temps have been getting up to about 550degC, isnt that abit hot? also, Rod, mentioned that the reading may even be abit low as the sensor is tapped into the pipe near the first bend...
Hi Nic what is your boost reading when your getting to those temps and what size exhaust do you have ?
550 is high mate. As boots has asked, what's your boost reading. I got 387c on the Hume and up the big hill just out of Seymour sitting on 110 clicks towing the camper. You should be getting lower than that imo.
im running the stock exhaust and my max boost is set to 14 PSI. the new mechanic changed the dawes needle valve over when he did the rebuild as he believed the current one to be faulty. one thing you have all got me thinking about, maybe my reading is coming through in farenheit? as the mcnally gauges do both and maybe one of the mechanics changed it over without me knowing???
im going out to the car to check now
@Rusty_nail That's pretty much what I'm wanting to do to my 2012 GU VIII. Great outfit.
i cant work out how to change between f and c, but on option 3 the gauge reads C and then changed back to read mode. im fairly certain its reading at celcius also, as when i got in the car it showed 10.8 on the dial and the house thermometer was showing 11 degrees C.
ill have to take it to the mechanic this arvo and show him
Mate drive by your gauge then and back off when temps climb. You could tweek with boost a little and get it higher but you may go to limp mode as things are. Unfortunately you need to spend more of your hard earned on a larger exhaust to get temps down to a more satisfactory range IMO.
Raise your boost levels until you hit limp mode, then back it off a tad to just under limp mode. You should get atleast 16psi, if not around 18...
So if I go fucking around with the dawes and needle valve am I going to run the risk of blowing up my motor? Or is this something I can do by myself? I'm so paranoid to change anything as I don't want to go blowing up the bloody thing again
The only way you could blow your motor up with the Dawes and needle valves is if you were to set the boost way too low and just drive it. Your EGT's will go through the roof, cylinder temps will be massive and you will melt pistons again. But if you were to drive with such low boost the car would under perform so badly....
ok so i discovered a problem over the weekend. i was out 4wding and at the beginning i went to take out my tow hitch. turns out the bloody thing is rusted in their solid!!! does anyone have any clever ideas about how to get it free so it can be replaced as at the moment i can only see it being a hazard...
Yeah cool, where did you go? First time 4WDing since the rebuild?
I would just keep soaking it in WD-40 and try use a hammer to knock it out, maybe use a bit of heat
ok heat and WD40. like oxy heat or heat gun heat? lol. went to yalwal and yes first time off the tar since the rebuild. the car went great, except i damaged a rim on the way out. went the whole way out without doing any damage and then damaged the rim. gotta have more of a look as it was dark when i got home and see if i did any other damage
ill throw some pics up in a min
@ Rusty hopefully if only a steel rim you can belt it back into position.
As for the tow hitch beat it on all sides and soak in WD40, you
may be even able to put a piece of pipe or similar in from the back and belt it out that way.
As for your dawes etc I take it you have gauges fitted already, if so hard to go wrong,
1/2 to 1/4 turn at a time
