A bit more shop'n today. Got sum new weather strips for the doors (the inner & outer bits that the windows slide through), ordered a bonnet sound dampner thingy and an aftermarket glow plug timer. .
Timer looks really good, keen to see how it works but hopefully helps with cold starts as mine is a bit different with the 12mm. Has an after glow which pulses for 2 sec on off for as long as you as you set it. Also doesn't glow at all if you just crank it which is nice i reckon, and hooks up to the factory dash lamp so will look like factory now ☺

@liftlid speak to Ross I about your glow plug issues we talked about tonight.
Yeah i know, although other people say otherwise. AB's is perfect, pretty sure Winnies is too same as with Mudskis. Was thinking compression might be getting low and the cause but wasn't too bad around 380 to 400, was kinda better than i expected really. What about glow plugs can you tell from a visual inspection or best to test these to see if they're up to scratch?
Usually cold starts aren't terrible it starts pretty much straight away and is a bit rough & white smokey but have had it stall on a couple is occasions which is not cool, never did that with the old pump. Only randomly and very occasionally tho. . . Medium hot starts (10 mins + after running) can take a bit of cranking sometimes and glowing it seems to help whereas I never used to glow it at all once hot with the old pump and it fired straight up. Not sure if this had improved since i first got the pump or just managing it better / getting used to it. .

Same as mine, Starts up in 1-2 second even on the top of that summit the other day freezing cold.

Your issues all sound pump related mate. Glow plugs are easy to check. Use a multimeter and check their resistance. And visually as long as they look good and not deformed or melted.
You need to take it back again then if you cant afford one of the ones I get. Easy now that the patrol is off the toad.
Cheers Matty, I'll have a think, can you send us the price just out of interest sake. Also what should the resistance be without having to look it up. Visually when we did the comp test they looked fine.
Might have to see how costs go with this thing, just a shame I've sunk a few $ into this pump so far, not sure what I could recoup from it. Wouldn't want to try sell something that isn't quite right to some poor bugger. . . Maybe I try getting Andy to give it one more tweak, just ran out of time & motivation last time. What are your thoughts on compression, would you expect cold starts to be reasonable with those kinds of figures?

Don't know what your taking about, wasn't cold at all up there . . .Attachment 72241

It was a smart move Ross you old skinny frozen bushman :-)
Feral pack dogs in the HC prefer plump snoring smarter campers under cover in the background:-) https://youtu.be/_N0jeLGIcw8
I would have to look as well mate. It might be 1 ohm but I would need to check to be sure. You can throw power on where the bus bar connects and touch the thread to an earth and if heats up real quick then it is likely ok.
You could get around $1000 for your pump and mention that it may require a rebuild. The compression is fine and yes cold starts would be fine at those figures. You are well within the specs. What gives it away as a pump issue is your issue starting when warm. You should not have to glow it once the temp gauge is showing the system has started warming up.
Yeah cool cheers heaps matty. Think I'll focus on getting this body sorted first then might see if I can get this pump tweaked one more time. Plan is to get it back together and running, then sort 4" Snorkel, airbox and then turbo. .
Still looking forward to having factory glow plugs. .

bahahaha I was wondering when that video would hit youtube hahaha.
@Sir Roofy this was a prank we played on Darren after he went to bed. I was recording it, AB had his phone with dog noises and the creepy laugh at the end and MB was pulling on the swag like a dog might... was quite the effort put into it with 24hrs prior we set the story up and kept talking about dogs but think Darren enjoyed the bottle of JD he had as there wasnt much of a reaction haha.
Sorry @Rossco I didn't even see you tag me before about the loom. Wouldn't of offered much help was a while ago I done it now and I had COMPLETE DASH and EVERYTHING out of engine bay so was quite easy with nothing in the way.
Yeah all good Matty, got it sorted was just a process of slowly working through it. Yeah ended up pulling it through from the engine bay into the cab. Fairly decent job pulling out the loom ! ! . .

You still got issues with that pump? Bloody hell. What did Diesel Tec say about it? Might be cheaper to remove it and take it somewhere else to get checked out. Theres a few mobs here in Melbourne that could look at it. AG Diesel and BSP are two off the top of my head. Even just ring them and have a chat. I'm not saying dont buy one of Mats pumps but its a lot of coin mate to be throwing away.
Yeah its not shocking but doesn't seem perfect either. Can't remember what Andy said last time kind of had enough but that stage. It's not that bad so when you test it in the shop it seems pretty good. I'll take it back again, just can be a pain beteen work and what not. Yeah it's a fair bit of dough down the drain to get another one. Bad timing, a couple of months later could have got onto one of Mattys. Looking at ABs & Winnie's they seem behave themselves very nice. .

Hell yeah Roofy mate, there were heaps. The night before we played the trick we had a pack of muts running across the next Eastern ridge howling at our fire. Quite daunting without guns TBH!
Just dropped the cab off @ the panel shed, should be nice & silver by then end of next week if all goes to plan. Just need to prep the doors & bonnet and get them in there too. .

Well the body is off. . .

Good time to pull that pump off ;).
I done my clutch when I had body off too and took me about 20mins to do haha
Yeah me & AB were looking at everything seeing how easy it world be to do. . . Crazy ! !

Well the cab has been painted, can't wait to see how it looks, came up alright aparently. I'll grab it Friday, have been busy striping & preping doors this week. Had to repair cracks in both the rear ones at the base of the window frames.

One minor bugger but lucky i found it now,. Checked the new body lift blocks (1"), they're 50mm diameter which is smaller than the body mounts (80mm) so will have to get sum more bigger ones. . . Trying to get onto the supplier with no luck. They are black poly which i kinda like, if not might have to go ally which I'm sure should do the job too? ?
Sent from my GT-I9506 using Tapatalk
Geez your guy didn't stuff around did he? Can't believe how quick you are powering through this
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Yeah he didn't want it taking up room in the shed. . . I thought sweet when he said that 😊
Sent from my GT-I9506 using Tapatalk
I'd be wary of galvanic corrosion with alloy blocks Rossco. No expert but I'd either go poly or only use the alloy with separators between the body/chassis and the block.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvan...alvanic_series
Yeah would rather poly in black if i can find some. For this reason plus, they would look the least obvious and not sure if it would be true or not, but may transfer less vibration than ally. Hopefully i can get through to the supplier soon and he has some, if not can get some somewhere else soon . . .

Posted that up as it came straight to mind before I thought too much about body lifting. I've never done a body lift so is there non-metallic separation between body, chassis and the blocks anyway? If so then that'd be pretty ok as far negating galvanic reactions go, but poly even better.
I think from reading that anodic index the cast alloy would be anodic to the body/chassis so would be the block that would corrode, not the body/chassis. Perhaps someone more learned could confirm?
Picked up the new cab this arvo. . .

Sincerely hope this is the only time the GQ is towed behind a Cruiser. . . Had to drive it home with a bag on me head so no one saw me . . .

Engine bay is sweeeeeeeet.😊

SHINEY . . Gonna be a shame to drive it let alone bash it through the scrub. 😕
Also got in touch with the dude i got the body lift blocks from. Gonna swap the 50mm ones for some 70mm. . .

Yep had a little sticky beak and it looks awesome! Shiny engine and chassis time, showroom condition when assembled for photo shoots and then time to destroy all that hard work on a tight pinstripe track :(

That's so sexy Rossco!

I hate the Mag but the one thing i regret not chasing when i rebuilt the GQ was a Photo Shoot for the 4WD Action mag just for the memory and Souvenir. I wrecked it quickly and was not longer suitable but you should line up a photo shoot with them mate, they will be keen as bud. They very much like them when everything is spotless clean like yours will be.
I took mine down an overgrown track on the first day trip out and it hurt a lot!!! i felt every scratch in the paint.
Next trip out i crashed off a slippery track in the Snow and hit a tree and put a dent in the front quarter panel and the rest is history. It looked great.......once.
you didn't paint the panels yeah? how is the colour match mate? You will have to give them a heavy Cut and Polish to match the shine. Engine bay is Glorious mate.
Good idea about the mag, didn't think of that at all. Yeah same don't really like the mag but may as well see what happens. . Would be pretty cool.
All panels are getting painted in stages, droped the doors of today, will pick them up and swap with the bonnet & barn doors. Have to admit scratched front quarter in transit on the way home, will have to do that one again. . . Bugger. .
