will do.i should of taken more pics on the way. but a wee little yarn will be posted soon.
OK well while the GQ sits in the back yard draining the oil i will post some pics of the suspension mods i did yesterday.
Yesterday i was able to line up a free 4 poster hoist at a local ARB dealer that i am friends with, Very kind.
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/St...g?t=1301808127
Firstly, during the build i fitted 12 stage adjustable BOSS Shocks! BOSS stands for "Bit Of S@#t Shock." i blew 1 in the first 1000kms on the front left and the other spat its oil all over the joint before they were 1500kms old. They had very little compression preload and a ridiculous amount of rebound dampening that saw my wheels off the ground every time i took it out.
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/St...g?t=1301808786
BOSS Shocks = JUNK!.
Secondly, i fitted a big lift and adjustable upper rear control arms to the back. When i fitted these i set it up to achieve the straightest possible pinion angle i could (Wrong) (a pinion requires about a 5 degree offset to give best performance) being straight gave the pinion nothing to do....

http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/St...g?t=1301810096
The idea of an adjustable trailing arm is to achieve the best setup for all of the suspension components ie, a nice straight spring without a big bow, a good pinion angle (5d), clearance around the tyres and best possible factory geometry.
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/St...g?t=1301810096
Also with the upper control arms set that way they were the diff was rolled back and the springs bowed back. The shock mounted behind the rear springs was rubbing on the springs during extension.
The other thing that the shocks were hitting was the back of the bump stop base on the top of the diff. (read ROOTED)

Some close ups.

http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/St...g?t=1301810336
A heads up on this during the buy and prior to the setup would have been a real winner as i would have made the adjustments at setup. Damn it. Down a full set of shocks to find this out gets a bit average.
When I fitted my Tough Dogs I had to cut about 10mm off the back of the bump stop plates on the rear diff to stop that happening.
Tony
Now i hear you ask "Why do you need the hoist MR??" Well the Front Radius Arm Flexi-Bushes i fitted in the build 1500kms ago are ROOTED too!!! NOt happy Jan! The Rubber ones that i took out that Mr Nissan fitted some 350,000kms ago where like new by comparison to these.
Well i only have grass in the back yard at the moment and for safety's sake i wanted to do it on the hoist and had use of aq press while i was there===>> Bonus!
These pics will blow you away!! They Blew me away!

Yep as you say Tony have to go the chop mate, Shame i did not get a heads up on that or it would have been done at the fit up.
so here is the plate that is causing the trouble.

So out with the old

And in with the New
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/St...g?t=1301811374
Suspension Stuff did me a great deal in kind for the crap i am taking off which s fair given that the sale took place 3 years ago and it all sat in a box for 2 years using all the warranty up. I reckon i got the replacement parts for Cost so that will do.
Here is the fit up of the new Pedders Branded Bushes

http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/St...g?t=1301811848
Look nice hey!
The Shocks are a Gas Twin Tube Suspension Stuff Branded variable Shock and i think they are Dobsons.
There is plenty of clearance now with the plate cut and the Uppers adjusted
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/St...g?t=1301811903
They look nice and feel completely different to handle and test than the BOSS.
most of the fall over Body Roll that i had when driving around is now gone and the car feels great again
OK, Now some test pics. Fortunately there is a bit of public bush beside the industrial estate where the workshop was that i know very well and i had to go and have a play and a feel . Some things just have to be done.
So, It feels a little firmer, not as much body roll.

One of us needs to get our own hoist one of these days...LMAO
Great setup MR!! Looking awesome and great flex!!
Mate great build..... went through the thread quickly, but will have a good look later.
i've done the same thing with the console with all the wiring inside and under the console...
great work on the truck, really inspiring stuff to get myself into gear.
Cheers J
Yeah its a No Brainer isn't it??? ........ "hey mate, thanks for buying these great shocks, heads up mate, you have to cut the bump stop plate off or they will hit and dent your new shiny shocks!" ===> "Lots of my customers have had this problem cause i have been selling these for ages, this is how you fix it!"
Yeah Cheers for that!!
Cheers J, glad you like the build mate, have a good look around mate, there is HEAPS in these 18 odd pages.
Good on ya.
Darren
Just finished reading the whole thread... fantastic.
Great build with many handy tips in here too.
The vids and pics are awesome.
Is this bloke Shane the same one that sold you the Boss shocks and those u-bute bushes that lasted an incredible 1500k's ;)
Gotta love this build MR, I love the flex shots lol.. good to hear you got the shocks all sorted now..
Keep up with the pics mate Haha
Hey Aussie, thanks for checking out my build mate, yes it is the same bloke but i am happy with the deal that he gave me on the new parts. No way he made money on them and he stood up straight away when i called him. Unfortunately my build took a long time and then i have not driven the thing much since it was finished...had allot on. So it has definitely been more than 3 years since i spent the cash originally.
-------------------------
Hey Fletch,
Cheers mate, i am really happy wit the flex shots too. have not driven the car since that day as the wife is very ready to drop her bundle so i have to stay close to home. Also the guys that i would normally have driven with went and bought Zuks while i built my GQ and do different driving now.
I have a couple of guys lined up for some decent driving when i get some time though, keen to get back into the Wombat soon for another crack at that hill in the videos with the new shocks to see if i lift the wheels as much this time. Will post the vids for comparison when i doo for sure.
Cheers MR.
Plenty of hours put in there! !
Hell Yeah!! Way Way too many mate ;)
Glad its finished and i can have much pride in the finished results. get a few comments when i am out in it...
Thanks for checking it out.
Welcome to the forum and be sure to come back and have a good look at it any time mate and ask away if you need anything. Lots will pass over to the GU 4.5 and i have a well set up GUIV TD42Ti also with a bit of gear on it.
Cheers MR
Ghee Racey000 you dug up a heap of older threads mate, good to look through some of them too. lol gunna mix up the board a little.
Well the wait is nearly over, the wife and i have recently bought another house and it has a decent shed in the back yard....Finally! I think it is around 7.5 by 9m or so so that will do me for a bit.
Only 1 of the 3 bays is enclosed at the moment but i am keen to close in the other 2 bays ASAP and whack a roller door on the front as a matter of urgency. Then i will have a decent shed again for the first time in 4 years...
Party at Darren's house!!!!
It has a Ceiling fan in it already and thinking the 42" plasma for the wall. Shame i am going to fill it with stuff!!!. But the GQ should make it under cover very very soon. I dont like leaving it out in the UV. Not good for it at all.
We settle on the house on the 27th May and the Wife is expecting our second baby on the 24th!! Go figure. lol
Good news about the new man cave mate .......and of the other new arrival
Well done mate and congrats!
Is that still in Geelong?
Yeah staying here, good spot.
I work from home a bit and only commute a couple of times a week so all good.
OK had the camera out on the weekend in the GQ and thought i would put a couple of updates. Sorry no action shots, the missus is 9 months pregnant and i am forbidden from going more than 30 minutes from home just incase she drops her bundle.
so i was able to source some awesome switch covers off ebay and have been really happy with them. Check this out, really neatened it up for me.
Note the Roof Lights i went for a yellow light so i could tell what switch i needed in the dark at night ;)

Pulled into the back of the hospital in Geelong, hesitated for a second before taking the reserved parking spot directly outside the door reserved for "On Call Obstetrician"
Opened the door and stepped out of my car, A black ML350 Merc pulled up behind me, the driver wound down his window and said "thats my spot you can't park there mate"
I looked at him and gestured back to the car behind me and said "She's 1 Minute apart mate"
He looked at me dumbfounded for about 2 seconds then said "fair enough, you park there" No brainer really! lol

Run in and grab a wheel chair, came back to the car and the Obstetrician had parked and was helping Naomi out of the car.
