Thanks heaps so you reckon this is a good mod to keep the road noise out
Yes!!! Has worked a treat and I wish I could prove how much nicer it is to drive.
Bought an aluminium rack off eBay. Fitted it straight away. Love the look of the gq's with roof racks.

Brand spanka.
:-"
Nice one. I gotta finish mine and put it on..
Good job mate, your project is coming together very nicely
Mate, that ride of yours is looking awesome! Top job.
Love the car and work you have done to it so far. After Xmas and rego might be time to pull mine apart and do the same thing
Parksy what are the two uprights welded to your diff ??
Think you should get shares in Dynamatt LOL
Lol 3d! With regards to the uprights, what do you mean? Are you talking about the rear diff?
The upper arm brackets?
Yeah I thought you had a different set up??
Take it your sold on that Dyna mat, after reading your thread and Kallens looks like its a must do
Absolutely, doubled up with the foam, it has made a massive improvement in road noise.
Bonnet is now black! Looks kinda blue because this paint reflects everything, gonna be worse when I buff it in a months time. Gotta do the rest of the truck now. Looks different...

Bought some adjustable rear upper arms off eBay. Quite impressed with how much stronger they look in comparison to the originals. At this point the patrol is 100% rebushed.
Was able to readjust the diff pinion angle, and with only a 2" lift, it still made a difference to vibration levels. Didn't even know I had a vibration issue until I fixed it.

Good Work keep it up
Parksy, did you end up putting dynamat/foam on the inside of the roof? I thought I saw somewhere that you were considering it.
Am still considering it Benk, just haven't had a chance to do it. Work is pretty flat out at the moment, infact I'm not even home at the moment. But I will be doing it one day.
New grill installed. Looking bling! Just need to get some leave from work so I can crack onto the rest of the painting to complete the look. Then maybe some negative offset rims to finish it off...

Had some engine troubles(see here http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...33-Cactus-tb42 )
So went about removing the head to hopefully find the cause.
Somehow I managed to lift this out of the car by myself.

Feeling it now though. Anyway, head gasket seems to be in tact all way around, but the water passages are looking very blocked, so I'm guessing that the head has been cracked due to poor circulation.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...90BFB69B6D.jpg
I had a quick look at the underside of the head but couldn't see anything, is there any obvious points where they crack?
Either way I've got a replacement head on its way. Just hoping it is the head now that I've ordered one, and not something small like the oil cooler....:(

But the bores look amazing. There is a tiny ridge at 400000km but there is still cross hatching!! Will give it a proper clean up and hopefully put the new head on in the next few days.
Is it a pain to put new rings on while the engine is like this??
Also that grill is wicked. Seen em on eBay and though hell yea, and wife said hell NO!!
Thought about putting new rings on it, but I really need to just get back on the road.
Would not bother putting rings on mate.... did it use oil before the head went??
Nope not a drop.
Then do not bother about rings...... still has good honing marks.
The only thing about doing the head while the engine is still in is you are going to hate the tightening procedure for the head.... faarrking hard!!!!!!!
Can do it with a good torque wrench but if you can get a degree wrench for the final tightening that would be more precise..
What gasket you getting?? are you just ordering the head and exhaust manifold gaskets??
Not entirely sure about what type of gasket I'm getting. It's one of those vrs gasket kits that has everything included.
Nice clean rig mate
Don't have the head yet but made progress anyway. Removed the old valves and springs so I could re use the valve springs on the new head.

Valve gear and rocker assembly removed
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...08D72137_1.jpg
The rocker assembly felt a bit graunchy when moving the arms so I pulled it all apart, gave it all a clean and gave the bores and friction surfaces a light sand with 600grit. Nice and smooth now.

And the block all cleaned up. Used a scourer pad in the bores and removed most of the lines caused by the rings. I can barely feel the ridge now. It's got to be no more than a thou or two.

Did you order new head bolts.... I snapped one in the head re using old bolts... they are torque to yield so should not be used again.
I am speaking from experience as I tried to use old ones and paid the price.
Yep new bolts are on there way.
Fingers crossed BA.... Fingers crossed....
New head and gear arrived.

I noticed that the water passages in the head gasket are very small and actually blocked in some cases on some of the cylinders. This was also the case with the gasket that was previously installed on the engine. Any risk in drilling out these holes and filing the holes so they actually match the head/block profile?

Can you show a pic of the other side??
Otherside of the gasket or the head?
The top of the head.. where the adjusters are.
Grab a dermal and thin cutter.
Main aim is to keep all edges smooth and round.
So grab a course cutter and a fine one..
And go nuts opening them up a little.
I'd recommend no closer to the bore, but can go out a little
