Awesome work anyhow guys, I can't wait to see it and it's making me want mine back from the welders even more now!
Awesone stuff. Will have to try out all these new goodies soon. I do like the led idea, might have to steal that one, would have been handy on that last adventure we did in the dark.
Just unwrap it and cut out the crap bit then wash it (even just through a bucket of water) then grab the eyelets and get him to sort it for you, winner!
Going to do a few mods to mine whilst it's out and on the bench. Where's a good place to get air line & fittings for breathers - would a good tool shop have those? Also how did you modify the brake shaft. Did you get it drilled and tapped or weld a nut on the end? Also! What plate is on the end drum - doesn't look standard?
Any hose shop like Pertek will sell pneumatic hose fittings and air hose like that. That Brake Shaft was modified by Flamingfab and he welded a nut and made the end cap. I upgraded to a Gigglepin Brake shaft and gave AB my modified one. Lucky bloke.
Again the drum has been professionally modified with an inner roller Bearing installed to replace the nylon bush that Warn use. Makes a massive difference to the friction on the drum end. I bought it a couple of years ago and again gave it to AB as I have gone a Deltatek Air Freespool.
Haha Yes AB is a lucky bloke!! [emoji4] Might upgrade to a bearing end one day but not just yet, thought it might have been.
I took my shaft into an engineering shop near work but couldn't tap it because of the hardness. It does look neat with the little cap, might have a play around see what i can come up with. . .
It is a pretty basic mod mate, weld on a decent nut. Using a piece of water pipe cut the right length, weld an end plate on it. Make sure the pipe is cut the right length. ( long enough to hole the end on at the same depth that the circlip would normally, your replacing the circlip here)
Take out the bolt on the end of ABs brake shaft and it will be very clear to see. Put a couple of clamps on the brakes first though!!!!
Yeah sweet sounds pretty simple, that's a good way of doing it. I'll check out AB's or just steal it when he isn't looking!!
thanks mate, that animation was an eye splice. After scouring the web this video below seems to be pretty good for splicing two joins...thoughts?

Easy as mate.
Redecorated the lounge room, the misses is wrapped ;) I'm going to splice the rope tonight.
That was easy and came up a treat! That video above is a winner!!
Here's a tip that wasn't on the video but made it ten times easier, tape a texture lid to each end, slid down the rope like a dream!
5 minute job...done!
Metric is 400mm enter each join and come out at 700mm after the enter point for 10mm rope.

..............here's a better photo
Yeah nice job!
Eureka!!
The bolt fitted perfectly Darren ;)
What size botl did you go. M12 x 1.5? I've got your other bolts here too and ordered a couple of snazzy hooks. . . Should be in next week . . .
Excellent. Did you shorten it?
Yeah I think my Tap was labelled wrong.
It went straight in and didn't touch anything.
Do I need to shorten?
So I've jumped the gun and wired everything up bar the front switches on the grille for the high mount.
If I run a single cable (or just run two) from the isolator in the cab and then splice off to both switches (in and out) on the grille to both the in/out wires right near the solenoid surely that is ok?
Edit. Sorry just read your post again. Yes it will work but you already have a wire you can use at the front.
Take positive power from the LED light straight to those 2 switches in series. That power is isolated via the inside isolator switch. They just need a 12v supply they can send to the Solenoid for switching. Have another look at that drawing I did bud.
