sorry bubble post...stupid phone:1087:
Ive posted the following picture in another thread where i was asking if these breather lines are factory or not. Ill post it again here to keep it in one place. The line on the left comes from the front diff and the one on the right comes from the transmission and transfer case, again, id be interested to see if this is a factory option? Looks like its just a case of extending the cut off rubber a bit more and i'll have some great breather lines.
As for the rear diff, well the breather line goes straight up and is plumbed into the big steel tube/brace that joins the chassis rails (whatever its called? lol). Is this where it normally goes?
Cool thanks, I think I will do the same. How about front? Is that factory?
OK OK OK...................DAMN IT i didnt want to talk about this again..........
Ok so as you know, i had a lot of trouble with my lock out converter on the auto and then it was finally sorted. WELL it's happening again!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!
heres some more about it: http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...ox-Electricals
So far i've found that its only once its really warmed up, and as far as i can tell only on slight up hills or downhills. Like when im doing around 90ks and i slightly accelerate or slightly deccelerate due to a slight long hill.
The problem last time was the temp sensor for the ecu in the auto. It was replaced but only with a second hand one..........So is it a coincidence that the temp sensor may have failed again?? Or could it be something that is causing the temp sensor to fail (i cant think how that could happen)?
I pretty much ran out of things to check the first time round. So im thinking it is the temp switch again. It is the exact same symptoms......
ANY thoughts would be very much appreciated:)
Thanks
What a bummer mate, sorry 2 hear of having drama's with the box again
I do believe there is 2 maybe 3 temp senors, so one of the other ones may have failed
And yes been a 2nd hand sensor it it cold of easily of failed again.
If I remember correctly you never put in a new Torque converter, am I remembering correctly?
Not sure of anything that contributes to the temp sensor failing, will try and look into it some more for you when I have the time.
Have you tried the Self Diagnostics Procedure to see if it brings up an error code???
thanks for the reply...
Yeah they have 2 temp sensors, 1 is just for the warning light in the dash, the other is to send info to the ecu (this is the one that had to be replaced).
It has a new torque converter. The rest of the gearbox is in perfect condition inside (been reconditioned). Has the Nomad heavy duty valvebody fitted.
Seems to only have the problem when it warms up, the same as last time.
Havent tried the self diagnosis yet i'll do that this morning.
Ok I did the self diagnosis this morning (5 times and once just then at lunch) it says the problem is: inhibitor switch, power shift switch, kickdown switch or idle switch circuit is disconnected or the control unit is damaged.
Anyone got any clues as to which it might be? Or which is the easiest to check? Haynes Book has info about inhibitor switch and power switch only.
Lucas
Try disconnecting the battery for a few hours and let the ECU reset itself. Then see if you get the errors again as sometimes the fault happens but the ECU doesn't clear itself ...
At least try that first before hunting for something that may not be an ongoing problem ...
Give it a go mate - mine did the same thing a while back (on another thread in here) and resetting the ECU resolved it - some error codes need to have the ECU reset via the consult unit, but most will clear after a couple of hours disconnected (I left mine overnight just to be sure also as no one could put a finger on just how many hours was needed).
Lucas
From my understanding it will clear the error code, but won't fix a malfunction in the ECU or whatever the problem is, and from what I have been told even if there is an error code still in the system form a previous problem that has since been fixed it will not cause any problems.
But I hope you can prove me wrong and clearing the error code solves your problem.
Cheers
Todd
Ahhh well I think it's just doing what it's ment to then and picking up the fault that I can feel when im driving!
But I'll disconnect the battery tonight and see what happens
Thanks,
Lucas
Let us know what happens, If it doesn't clear, gives us a starting point, unfortunately error codes only narrow the problem down, say for example your error read: inhibitor switch, power shift switch, kickdown switch or idle switch circuit is disconnected or the control unit is damaged.
It could be none of those that at fault, but the problem you have is caused by another problem that is causing a problem with one of those....
.............hope that made sense Lucas............had a few beers :):):):)
yep, made perfect sense mate:) but ive had a few turkeys too.....think im speaking your language lol.
i reckon the problem is the temp sensor. Its doing the same thing as last time and was only replaced by a second hand one. Although its just a bit too much of a coincidence to have failed again.
back to the drawing board
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........! :mad::mad::mad:
Don't think I have said it yet, so if I haven't........big congrats on reaching the 1000 posts mark....... ( 99 posts ago ) *L*
Well done mate, keep em coming, just not with posts of probs with the auto!!!!!!!!
Today I got instructions how to use a test light to check the ecu signal for the lockup converter. Only problem is I don't know where the ecu is! Lol. Its on the passenger kick panel somewhere right? Is it inside the cab or in the engine bay?
Lucas
Mine's in the passenger side kick panel........ I think lol
Lucas, Scottie is correct, in the below threads are some pics of the location for ya
TCU Locaion ( Transmission Control Unit ): http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...-Control-Unit-)
ECU Location ( Engine Control Unit ): http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...-Control-Unit-)
Cheers
Todd
Well I was kind of almost sort in the area...... I got the passenger side bit right. Lol
Thanks heaps guys, and thanks for the links Todd. I did a search but.....in the wise words of clunk, "I know nothing" lol
Will have a look tomorrow. Wishme luck!
Lucas
Ahhh I think I might have confused you guys, I said I was after the ecu but I reckon I'm after the tcu. I didn't know they were two different things. I got instructions to use a test light to see if the signal that tells the lockup converter to lock pulses on and off thus causing the converter to lock/unlock and therefore pi55 me off! Lol
Lucas
I know how to fix this mate! What you do is put in a td42 and 5spd manual cog swapper ;-) works every time
Yeah i reckon that would work. The TD42 (with a nice fresh turbo and intercooler) would be great! But I love the Auto for hills and mud and sand (not that ive done any sand in my own). Its good not having to swap cogs half way up a steep muddy hill. But at the moment it sucks just cruising along the highway lol.....
I priced up another temp sensor $114, which isnt bad if its a fix but its a 2 week trip from Japan home of the Patrol.
Furry nuff!!
Paid for the temp sensor today, now the wait till it gets here.....
Then the wait till it's fitted......
Then the wait to see if it has fixed the problem....thats the worst wait of all!!
